Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
When do you class yourself a cancer survivor - is it from the day of diagnosis or surgery???? I'm just curious..........

I asked this same question a while back.. According to my doc, the starting point is the date of the major treatment, ie. surgery in my case.
My surgery date was Nov 16, 2004. Everything, for me, starts on that date.
I'm very pleased that you have to ask this question. I expect you can figure out why.
