Esophageal Cancer Support Group
Esophageal cancer is malignancy of the esophagus. There are various subtypes. Esophageal tumors usually lead to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), pain and other symptoms, and is diagnosed with biopsy. Small and localized tumors are treated with surgery, and advanced tumors are treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combinations.
I can so relate to scanxiety - it's usually when I think most about, if the cancer has returned? I just try to make my thoughts change to something positive when it goes there. Other than the swallowing issue, I didn't really have symptoms either. But the one thing we know is the tests are necessary and the best we can do to do our part.
I'll be lifting extra prayers for you. I hate that they have a hard time finding your veins. Do you tell them ahead of time that you are a hard stick? I was told once to tell them in the lab that I was, so I wouldn't have a student. I couldn't remember if I needed to fast for water & I didn't for the test I was having, but I didn't drink any since I couldn't remember. I've heard that makes it harder to find a vein if you haven't had anything to drink for 12 hours or whatever. Not sure if it's true or not. I'd still do whatever they tell me :-)
My best to you with your test results. Brenda
You were one of the first post to me and FireJon. I read it everyday. Along with you we never heard of this cancer and the BEAST it is. Prayers for Wednesdays scan and all the people who are newley Dx with this cancer. When Jon had surgery there were 4 patients on the floor with this Dx. I also told them about this site but I still don't see any postings. Speaking for veins Jon has the same problem. If you remember the Port he had put in before Chemo and Radation never worked so to the veins. Well one of the nurses said when you have Chemo your veins are not the same as before. He had so much trouble in the hospital after trying for 1hr and he said please stop they called a team just for that problem. It took the team 4 tries finally got in. Yes the drinking of water helps but what do you do when you have to fast!
They did a scope on Feb 8th Jon fasted omg what a time to get the vein. Jon has an appointment March 13th to remove the port and follow up visit. Nothing about scans and stuff has been discussed yet. He is doing OK. I try to keep him hydrated. One of the nurses suggested Pedi-lite and it works, goes down well and tast is good.We take one day at a time.
Today 5 weeks post surgery now a Cancer Survivor.
