Please, educate yourself about Epilepsy & All it's aspects including treatments. Pills aren't the ONLY solution. Your son is old enough to try a 'diet' The ketogenic diet is the best for his age. You can visit these sites for more info to help you decide.

Knowledge about Epilepsy is a never-ending, ever-learning process. Please do 'homework' & teach your child, too. You may have to speak to his School nurse, counselor & of course his teachers & explain what they need to watch for & what to do. The Epilepsy Foundation & epilepsy.com have lots of info on theis subject.
