I think I may have...I had a very bad night from asthma and my asthma meds triggered seizures. I had one after another couldn't do anything but cry...couldn't walk or talk, and my feet kept arching from the seizures. There was no break for a few hours! I should have gone to the ER, but was newly diagnosed and couldn't communicate how bad it was to my husband. I don't lose consciousness generally, but get confused and blank out like absence seizures.

I was diagnosed with status epilepticus years ago as even with meds they could not keep my clonic tonic seizures under control, I convulsed for about 10 minutes or great every seizure. I never had more than one in a day. It was deemed status epilepticus because it was not controlled.
I have read other place that status epilepticus means either siezures lasting greater than 30 min or seizures occuring repeatedly one after the other.
I no longer have it as I don`t convulse anymore, in the summer I was having about 20 or so abdominal seizures a day as my triggers were back but I don`t think that constitutes status epilepticus.

I witnessed my husband go into status E. as alot of people his GM seizures happen while sleeping. I woke at 3am to the screeching, I always call 911 as he always has GM"s in clusters but regains consciousness between episodes. After being in the ER for about an hour and a 1/2 he convinced the Dr. (and myself) that he was fine to leave.

10 min.s later in the car on the highway home the 2nd GM started so right back to the ER we went. It took 5 people to get him out of the car. He never regained consciousness and had 3 more GM's withen a one hour period.

I watched him turn purple while the Dr. and nurses tried to stop the seizure activity. He has had a bad reaction to oral dilantin so it stated on his chart to not give it however in the past intravenous dilantin has stopped the activity, it took me alot of yelling to finally convince the Dr to give it to him and the seizures stopped.

He has been on Keppra for over 9 months now and has not had any more GM's but is still having some seizure activity during the day. That was the scariest day of my life, I thought I was going to watch my best friend die.

I've gone into status twice in my lifetime. I've had seizures since birth, but before I had brain surgery to help get them under control, I had status.Both times I needed medical attention.
