Meds to stop seizure??

I am currently on medication to prevent seizures long term, but since I always feel the seizures coming on before they happen, I was wondering if there is any type of medication that will stop them once I feel it coming on, like a short-term medication..I know there wasd already a post about this but it didn't give any specific information..thanks!

i dont know if this helps...but i have JME and when my arms and legs start jerking i have a prescription for Ativan and after i take it the jerks stop. However i have never tried taking it before a grand mal because ive only had one recently.

On of the meds I am on is tegretol. I have extra dosages available so that if I feel a seizure coming on, or have one, I can take that extra 200mg dose as a rescue med.
Check with your neurologist and see what is available to you.

I also do that with my tegretol if my auras are really bad.

I meant Carbatrol, but basically the same thing as tegretol.

Very interesting....*rubs hands excitedly* Ialways feel mine coming on also. anywhere from 3 minutes -2 hours approximately before i have them. I would love to be able to take a "rescue pill". currently I am on tegretol (off brand actually)been on it since 17 yrs. i take five pills a day now. i think each pill is 200 mg.

this is sad news 2 u but there are none that I know of I hav looked high and low but nothing the only good thing is the results from peoples opperations have a very high sucsess rate..again sadly for me they wont opperate because I only hav then once a year..but do keep looking and please do keep us informed if u find that wonder drug..thanks OZ

well...i dont think they could operate on me. mine are caused by scar tissue on the outer surface of my brain...so unless they can scrap the whole outside layer and me still be "normal"........

I have Grand Mal Seizures and I take Adavan for that if I need to and it usually helps.
