After a stroke in 99 I had to shut down my design/build company. I had a degree in Architecture but quite in 1989 due to computers taking over the drawing part of it and I wanted nothing to due with it. So after my stroke I knew that I had to retrain myself to operate the computer. I bought a inexpensive drawing program and video instructions for it and started to teach myself how to do it. It was a long and frustrating process but I had no choice and would sit and do some things on the drawing and when I got stuck, lots of bitching, being mad, frustration I would go back to the videos, watch it again and try again. Its a very frustrating process but I made it thru it. Today I can operate two drawing programs in 2 dimensions and 1 in three dimensions along with a accounting program. It take a lot of patientence and frustration but it has kept me off disability. I hope this helps you, good luck.

I will tell something about a job when i left school i was 16 yrs, i forgot to tell them i was epileptic because i wanted the job so much a cashier, anyway i had a seizure first day at the till no job ever since. Love shirlxx

I'm surprised that there's not something down there that can help you. Perhaps a county place can help?

In any event, there's the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation at rehabworks.org. It says on their website that they are "An employment resource for businesses and people with disabilities. Our mission is to enable individuals with disabilities to obtain and keep employment."

Do you have a state rehabilitation services office? For example, in Michigan we have MRS (Michigan Rehabilitation Services). They help with education if you need it, and with job placement. I completely understand where you are coming from. I feel like I need a change too. I am a social worker...I'm used to helping other people with their problems! I have too many of my own! Good luck...hope that helped.

Do you have benefits at work. Your work needs to try and accomodate you to something more suitable. Here in Canada it is a requirement. Talk to you your government human rights assoication and to unemployment and see if you can qualify for retrainning. If you have long term leave at your work through benefits they may retrain you.

thanks for the answer yes they should have retrained me. it would not have been hard. they just kept me in the job until i failed and then they fired me. not nice of mayo. but i did get unemployment since they fired me so that made life easier you had to be on your back unable to move to get leave
