i just saw something on memory loss but my proble is the fact that i haven't had a seizure in over a year and a half and yet still can't remember things.... i have add but i never had problems with not remembering as much as i have had since my first seizure....... another problem i have is when i'm cashiering or dialing a phone or even when i type sometimes my muscles jerk but i unfortunately have no insurance.... could that be a side-affect of my meds?

Same with me. I've not had a seizure for 1.5 years. I have a very bad memory like movies I've seen, friends names, and I always trip over my words when I am talking. I just can't string sentences together very well anymore. I don't know if it is meds or ep. I think part of the problem is that I am accepting that I have a bad memory and am not even fighting against it. I have heard that by consciously practicing to remember little details and continually recalling them, that you can improve it. It may not be the case for us, but its worth a try.

What kind of ep do you have? I have the (myoclonic) jerks to. Mine is Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and I used to have grand mals withing the first half hour of waking up until my meds kicked in.

i'm not sure exactly what kind of i have besides grand mals...... my mom and i think i had tonic clonic when i was young but unfortunately i wasn't diagnosed till after my third or fourth grand mal and that was once i turned 21...... i know xactly what you mean about stringing sentences together but i just thought it was add getting worse as i got older..... it's nice to know that it could deal with this condition...... my b/f sometimes has a hard time not getting frustrated with me about my memory cause he'll tell me something and i can swear he didn't but he did.... also do you ever say one thing but in our head you swear you said something else? the jerking is just barely there and hardly noticable except when i drop things.... i mean i was always clumsy but never like this.....

ok so i just found out that tonic clonic are grand mal my mom told me they were the ones where you just zoned out for a minute or two..... sorry they all thought i was a bad kid

I'm gonna go with meds as it can take years to adjust to them. It took me about three years to get on the right dose, and I was gaining weight that entire time which didn't make it easier as I needed more and more.

I don't think epilepsy itself can cause memory problems; I may be wrong. But I believe that anyone who has seizures is technically classified as an epileptic.
