Is this her first seizure? I wish I could tell you more, but it sounds like right now the docs are doing what they can to figure out what it may be...i really wish you all the best and will pray for you. The CT/mri, etc will hopefully help clear things up a little.

If she does have epilepsy, they will try to find some meds that may help control them. It will really take time to feel out how the meds are working and if she is still having seizures. If you have any specific questions about caring for her, ask away :)

Right now everyone is scared. We and our families have all been through this stage. Know first that it is normal to fell all of this.

Until you know what is going on there is not much reason to start worrying about "what what what should we do. The stress is not what she needs to hear. What she needs the support of knowing that no matter what she is going to have all of you by her side through all of it.

If it is adult onset epilepsy, do know she is capable of still living a full life. They will try give her meds, and with that the hope is that she will never seize again. The most compelling thing her mind is to know that is going to be able to live her life--and that is what she needs to hear for all of you. Do not take that away form her unless the Drs. give you a very compelling reason to do so.

Well they sent her home at 430am. With NO answers :(
She is sleeping now.. and yes this was her first seizure. The doc just said live your life and move on.. Nothing you can do. I am ill with that comment. We arent going to leave her alone.. We are gonna figure something out. To make sure she is safe in case there is more to this then they could figure out. :( Thanks for your prayers and reply

I don't believe the doctors will diagnose anyone with epilepsy until they take 2 or more seizures. Did they do an EEG while she was in the hospital. It took us 2 years to get answers for our son because no one ordered an EEG and we were uneducated about epilepsy so didn't know about it. It is scary but try not to let her see that. You can live a perfectly normal life with epilepsy. My 7 year old son does. Best of luck

It is really such a hard thing because so many of us are tested and tested and retested and then there still may be no answers as to the why's and what next and what not. I applaud you for being near her side and as was mentioned before, that is what she will need the very most...to know that she will be cared for and loved no matter what. She will also probably want very much to live as normal a life as possible and please do understand that with her. It can be oh so very frustrating to hear all of the 'you can't do this and that' scenarios...I'm more of the 'well tell me what I can do then...cuz I'm doing something with myself' sort. And I have done just that. I own a great business that I run from home and I love it. I do seize sometimes, but I just keep on the best that I can.

It took 2 years to diagnose my epilepsy. They tried to say it was low iron, menopause, diabetes, heart conditioin, a brain tumor, you name it. it sucked becasue i am an extremely healthy person, so I couldn't understand all the ridiculous testing! I got the feeling that they do that so when they told me it was epilepsy, I reacted in a relieved tone instead of a panic tone. I think the medical world needs to seizures before they call it epilepsy, but eeg, mri (you said they already did that one) are the most important tests to define the parameters! Demand them if they are not offered promptly!

If she's also in Victoria, like yourself, then perhaps you could help keep an eye on her. But if you have to work too, then perhaps I could as I'm in Victoria and I have Epilepsy too, so know how to handle it, compared to the public freaking out and calling 911.

Trust me, when a seizure is over, there's a really bad headache and you just want to sleep, but if you're in the hospital, they won't let you sleep! They want you awake all the time to answer all their questions, then make you wait an hour or two and go for blood tests, then more time waiting for the results, when you'd rather be home in bed.

Like I said, if she's here in Victoria, I could help keep an eye on her and possibly get her involved with the right people.

Forget the Epilepsy Society as they just give pamphlettes of what epilepsy is, but if you want to meet others who have it... sorry... each case is confidential.

Although I have epilepsy, I'm now seizure free following Brain Surgery. They ran some tests and recorded a seizure, then slowly reversed the recording and found out exactly where in the brain it came from, and took that spot out. Kind of like taking the spark plug out of a Lawn Mower... it'll never start again.

Call me if you're interested! I'm always open to helping others out with something I've got a lot of experience in! I got diagnosed when I was 8 (1970) and finally had surgery to stop it when I was 41 (2003).

Even worse... after a seizure, you've got a really bad headache, and if you're in the hospitla they won't give you anything for your pain as the doctors want you to describe how it feels and where-abouts it hurts the most. Maybe when all the tests are done, they'll give you a prescription for some Tylenol or something, then send you home.

My Neurologist paid me $250 to have 100 of them made and sent to him. He likes giving them out to little kids, telling them his job is to Stop the Seizures. Cool huh?

Then I got 50 of them made for myself for $100, so $2 each.
