i have been taking keppra a long while now the only side effect i got was headache and a little dizzyness but that went of when my body got used to taking them but now i have had surgery i am gradually being taken off medication and im hoping nothing happens as ive taken medication for 25 years.take care love susanx

I took Keppra from 2002-2004 and the side effects were quite severe. I felt on the verge of losing my temper all the time. I keep a leaflet, which came with them, in my wallet - just as a reminder really. If your medication came in a box, there should be a leaflet with them, which is worth checking. Best of luck.

I just started on it too. What's your dosage? I'm only on 500mg twice a day, but my cousin was put on it a year or two ago and he was on 1500mg twice a day. He had the same side effects I'm having. Just extreme fatigue it seems. Occasional dry mouth and headache that could possibly be associated with it. I think my emotions are a bit out of wack, but mostly because I'm just so tired. When my cousin started on it, he was so tired at first, he accidently proposed to some :)

i had problems with temper temper

I was placed on Keppra two months ago for simple partial seizures. I started on 500mg twice a day a month after I started the med. It was increased to 500mg one and a half pills twice a day. My neurologist/oncologist said it would take a month to get into my system. I have fatigue, dry mouth, forgetfullness like crazy! dizzyness. It can be a pain but I want to stick with it for awhile longer. My doc. also said temper can be a side effect if it got to bad he would switch me but I don't notice much of a temper change. I meet with him in June so we'll see what happens!

Ya know...I think my temper might be affected as well, but I think it's mostly because I'm so tired. I snapped at a few people the past few days without meaning to. It's too soon to tell though...

My son TBone was on this and it made him very agressive and so hyper you would have thought he was on speed!!! It was awful and didn't help him with seizures.

I have had short jaggy pains in the left side of my face around my chin and cheek sometimes into my ear has anyone else experienced this with their partial seizures? The Keppra has been increased twice and I think they are going to increase it again at my next visit. I am starting to wonder if it is helping once my body becomes use to the side effects the pain in the left side of my face comes back, when they increase my med it goes away for a short period of time. Any thoughts on this???? My neurologist suggested taking vit. B-6 to help with mood swings I also feel a difference with my fatigue when I take the vitamin as well!

I have been taking Keppra for about a year now. I take 1500mg twice daily and only notice occasional headaches which might not be associated with the Keppra since I take other meds as well. Compared to all the other meds I've ever taken I'd recommend Keppra over any of them.

You really can. I had a lot of problems getting up to the full adult dose. Took me a couple of months or more. I was giddy at times loss my strenght. Getting adopted to it was hell but I kept on going & got over the side affects. It is helping some what. I will never be fully seizure free so hard to tell at times.

I know this will be considered unusual but I was prescribed Keppra for Migraines. After a few weeks on Keppra and feeling like my head was a rock, I stopped using it. I now take one Keppra and an Advil at night when I get a migraine headache. I sleep like a baby that night and then next day, I feel really calm and maybe a little out of sorts. I then don't get another migraine for about three weeks.

I have never been on it, but I read a post on DS a while back that taking vitamin B cancelled out the mood swings/rages that are commen with Keppra. Try reseaching that, maybe you can find out the dosage etc. My neurologist wants me to switch from Lamictal to Keppra if I want to have a baby. But looking at all the side effects, that is the last thing I want to do!

It works for me, It makes me tired if I take it in the morning but if I take it before bed, I'm fine.
