I have used Phenytek (Phenytion) since 2003. At first I felt groggy, but it subsided. I must be lucky because there are times that I can go days without taking meds and have not had a seizure. Overall, I have no real side effects and it works 100% for me.

My husband was on Dilantin when he was a teen. His gums swelled up so much that they would bleed everytime he tried to eat. He had to have surgery to relieve the pressure on his gums and was taking off Dilantin for good.

did not work for my hubby. does work for my daughter. it all depends on the person i guess

I was on Dilantin for about 9yrs and seizures were pretty much completely under control and then one day just quit working, my Dr. had told me your body comes immune to it, if on it too long

I was put on dilantin early last year. It worked great for me! I never had one side effect or problem with it at all. I was taken off of it back in September though. Only because I found out I was pregnant and had to go off all my meds.

I was on Dilantin years ago & I was on it not even 3 weeks & I had no energy & lost so much weight & the doctor told me it was to early for it to be an allergy & my family doctor told me right away it was an allergy. I had to write a note with people who have notice how I was to show the doctor to take me off of it

Dilatin for me gave me bad side affects and had to be taken off of it and put on trileptal which I have no side affects what so ever now. My side affects from Dilatin was interferring in everything I was doing and bother my work. side affects were, Short Term Memory Loss, very bad slurred speech I could not pronounce words at all, falling asleep at work alot, alot of Auras which I kept feeling a Seizure coming on but nothing happened. Now Iam doing fine since the Neuro Doc had gradually been taking me off it.

My husband was put on Dilantin when he was 19 (May 1986) He didn't seem to have any problems until a few years after we were married. His seizures increased and we couldn't keep the Dilantin balanced. He's tried adding Phenobarbital and changing medications, but nothing helped and he'd always be put back on Dilantin. He is now on Dilantin, Keppra, and Depakote. We deducted that when we first met he weighed 165lbs, and quit smoking and drinking. He gained weight easily in winter and lost easily in summer, so with the weight fluctuations, it threw his Dilantin level off-He needed 5-100mg tablets daily at times and 6-100mg tablets daily at others, but a consistent 500mg was not enough and a consistent 600mg was too much.

We're still dealing with the imbalances-he's now at 265lbs and fluctuates with the different jobs(or lack of jobs) he has plus I guess the Keppra and Depakote cause him to gain weight.

Until recently on my therapeutic dose the pd dilantin stayed within good therapeutic range and controlled my seizures. I had a
drop in level by about 37%-50% in July.
No explanation. I switched lot numbers and my level was fine within one week and is stable after 4 weeks. I suspect the lot of dilantin so I sent it back to pfizer. I think I got a bad batch of dilantin. anyone else have that experience

Recommendation and tip: don't skip a dose. The only time I've had a seizure, besides after a neuro treatment or procedure was when I forgot to take my med. I'm on Dilantin, Keppra and Phenobarbital. Send me a note for more info.
