I didn't see anything on this and wondered if anyone had any experience with this.
I have polycystic kidney disease and seizures and they don't know what's causing the seizures or what type or anything.
I tried Topamax in the past and had a horrible experience.
Now I'm on Depakote...have been for the past 3 months...I've noticed some weight gain and my seizures have lessened tremendously. (I'm only on 500 mg a day)
My last doctor visit discussed the results of a CT I had on my kidneys. (I usually get this done yearly.) they found some cyst on my ovaries and since I can't afford the ultrasound to "have a better look at them" I did some research. (on this visit my doctor also upped my depakote to 1000 mg...but not to start it until I get more of the meds which the clinic didn't have until yesterday...I planned on picking them up today and starting the 1000 mg tomorrow...now I'm not so sure)
I found that depakote can cause cysts on ovaries or make PCOS worse if you already have it.
why didn't the doctor KNOW that? I don't want to take this drug anymore nor do I want to waste money paying some idiot ya know?
Any thoughts or experiences?

Unfortunately some DRs don't know about side effects or ignore them. Pharmacies have all the info, though. :( I say it's time to seek another neuro. And, yes, insist on another 'trial & error' AED (anti-epilepsy drug)

Stay on the 500 until you discuss this w/ another DR. Do not quit taking your med w/out DR supervision!
