Epilepsy (often referred to as a seizure disorder) is a chronic neurological condition characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. It is commonly controlled with medication, although surgical methods are used as well. Seizures (or convulsions) are temporary abnormal electrophysiologic phenomena of the brain, resulting in abnormal synchronization of electrical neuronal...
Sounds like a seizure to me - the inability to express yourself and move comfortably certainly sounds like a neurological storm (i.e. seizure) to me. Also, the soreness upon waking is very characteristic of seizures (and it used to piss me off big time). If I were you, I'd get a second opinion from a neuro! Also write down everything you remember and start keeping a journal, so you have all the info at hand (for both yourself and drs)!
You report that Depakote seems to radically minimize the seizures. A lot of "seizure drugs" are also used for other neurological conditions, but this is a good indiation right here.
Seizures are such an unknown entity with so many differing causes and symptoms, a lot of Dr's will tell you you're faking it, just because they can't ultimately solve the problem easily. No one's perfect... That's why I'm suggesting that you go to another neuro for another opinion.
Good luck,
Dimmie
Then have some blood work done to chek your Levels.
Do you know what type of seizures you had in the past? visit epilepsyfoundation.org to learn more about seizure types/causes.

I think from the epilepsy descriptions they may be simple partial seizures. The only thing that doesn't sound quite right is that when I first started having them they wouldn't stop, I'd have one after another. I ended up going to the hospital quite a few times. They would give me something to knock me out and I'd wake up and start having them again. This past time I had two in a row and they were over with fairly quickly though.
I am 43 and have been having seiz. since I was 9. My siez. have changed throughout the years. Do you notice that they come on at a certain time? How long have you been having them and have you noticed changes as you get older?
I would definately agree with Dimmie and get a second opinion. In a lot of cases, an EEG doesn't really tell what it is that the Dr. is looking for. Have you had an MRI? It was during an MRI that the Dr. found that my epilepsy came from my left Hippocampus. And it really is a good idea to keep a journal. I was going through some weird feelings and instead of having seiz. mostly once a month while I was supposed to be having my period, (I have had a partial hysterectomy, so it was the seiz. that told me when I was having my period) all of a sudden I was having several seiz. a day for several days every 2-3 weeks. Well, after reading my journal and having tests done by the Dr. I found out that I had started "Pre-menopause".
That is why having a journal is a good thing, if you have questions you can look back and see if anything makes sense.
I hope you are able to find some answers.
Take care, Tomi
