Allergies Support Group
When the immune system responds to a foreign substance in an abnormal way, it is classified as an allergy. When the body first contacts the substance, it will not cause any reactions, but the immune system will start to produce antibodies to it and subsequent contact will trigger more dramatic responses. Depending on the allergy, the response could be mild or very severe...

in a nebulizer, and carry inhalers, and am on a maintenece dose of prednisone. But, I have had success in lowering my reactions and medication need by work I have done in my home to lower allergens (since that is where I spend tge majority of my time). My son, who also has allergies, hasnt needed any medications and I think it has a lot to do with the work I have done to keep our indoor air quality very good.
The first thing was we had to move out of a home with cats/dogs/any furry animals. That was hard on its own. In our new home, I dont even allow furry pet owners in--I can meet them out somewhere--that is because even homes with no oets get dander trapped inside significantly from those visiting because ofvthe dander carrued on their clothes, shoes, purses, etc.
Second, I have HEPA air purifier in the bedrooms, I wash the bedding, curtains in hit water weekly and I have zippered encasements on the mattresses and pillows that I was monthly so that allergens dont get imbedded in the mattress and pillows.
I use a water-based vacuum and purifier called the Hyla in the living room. I also make sure I check my air filters and clean/change regularly. I dont have carpet, just area rugs that I can wash or vacuum, aling with vacuuming the couch and washing covers on throw pillows.
On top of living space air, I have put focus on what I eat to try and find foids that I like that are "low inflammation" and vitamin-rich.
And I have allergist/rheumatologist to help me manage on the least medications to keep me from flaring, and to help me find medications that work for me.
I also carry a medical mask in case I am stuck near a trigger when I am out. And I carry epipen, benadryl, and inhalers with me as well.
I hope some of this is helpful. Having sevete allergies is no joke, and it is difficult--way more difficultvthan most people give it credit to--ignore those people and listen to your body and make some ground rules for yourself to help get things under control. Eventually, people will help you to avoid triggers and understand your guidelines and it will be good and get easier!
