How to deal with allergies that last all year long

I'm allergic to pollen, grass, dust mites, mold, and animal dander. My allergies last all year long. Every morning when I wake up my sinuses are swollen and plugged. Sometimes this triggers my asthma. I take reactine, singulair, avamys nasal spray, symbicort, and ventolin(albuterol). I don't think allergy shots are covered by my insurance. I'm still recovering from colon resection surgery to remove colon cancer. I constantly have sinus headaches, irritated nose and eyes. I tried a neti pot in the past but all it did was dry out my sinuses more. Is there anything else I can do? How do you deal with allergies that never go away?

Well I know we have already mentioned the air cleaner-need to put that on your wish list :)
What about those disposable masks when you go outside-I know they can affect the air intake though...
I just wonder if you aren't being overmedicated with all those meds-and need to find one thing that works for you?

I've only ever seen the disposable face masks. Unfortunately, I need all of those medications because without them my asthma isn't well controlled at all. I wish I didn't need them though. The only time now my asthma isn't well controlled is if i have a cold.

Oh ok-as long as the meds are helping ..I have seen ttwo types of disposable masks-the kind that medical personal wear-flat type-I have seen members of the public with them,so they must be available at your pharmacy.And then the type that are puffed out and even landscapers wear them.

I didn't have any allergies until I hit 45 years of age (5 years ago). They started out here and there, and now have developed in to all day everyday issues. Sinus headaches, congestion, drainage. No prescriptions helped. I went to an accupuncturist who told me to stay away from those prescriptions. They just take care of symptoms but don't get to the root of why you are having the problems in the first place. The only thing that has helped me is the accupuncture. Insurance doesn't cover it for me but I have no choice. Maybe you can find an accupuncturist in your area. Some will do sliding scales depending on your income. It may be good to at least talk to one and see what they say.

I know something that's perfect for you! I have perennial allergies and I am allergic to every type of tree and grass in my state in addition to dust mites, mold and pets. Immunotherapy has basically prevented all the infections I used to have (e.g. sinus and upper respiratory infections; headaches, hoarseness, sinus drainage). I take Claritin, Zyrtec, Singulair, Spiriva and Qvar daily. The Claritin and Zyrtec help me cope with the shots. You may want to call around and see what allergists have deals or will work with you to cover the immunotherapy shots.

My mold, dog, grass, tree and weed allergies no longer show up on allergy skin testing. I tried allergy shots for dust mites and cats. I had an anaphylatic reaction to the 4th shot and can't continue. I am very prone to anaphalaxis.
