Has anyone tested negative for allergy to egg on skin test but showed symptoms of being allergic to egg?
My daughter is almost 4 years old. We had always noticed that she got red around the face when eating ranch dressing, but we never thought anything of it until in Feb 2017 we noticed she was getting what we believed to be a couple hives here and there. She never really ate much egg ( a bite here or there off daddys plate but she never ate much for egg herself. didnt care for the taste).
Feb 2017 we took her to our doc who said looked like hives (based on pictures we had taken and brought to him when we took her in). He sent a referrel to the allergist and said to avoid egg for the time being, and ranch dressings.
May 2017 she saw the allergist. He seemed more worried about the suspected asthma, but said to continue her on the inhalers as usual. she is too little to do the breathing test so its not officially diagnosed. He did the skin test for a few different allergens (egg, milk, wheat, dog, cat, horses, feathers, rabbit (we own a rabbit and 3 cats), tree, grass, ragweed, moulds, cockroaches and both types of dust mites).
The only thing that came back positive was the two types of dust mites.
The allergist said because her history, it suggests egg allergy (brought the pictures to him too) and to avoid egg. he said he would see her again in a year .
We kept her away from egg and dressings that contain egg but we continued giving her baked goods, and things that may contain.
Come July she started getting what looked like bug bites, but they kept coming and kept going. A month of this and we went back to our doc. He said it could be eggs- anything that may contain egg. So we were told to stop giving her anything that contains or may contains egg, keep a food log and put her on a 24 hour allergy med for the time being. We kept her on it for almost two months, then removed the allergy meds. She has had nothing that contains or may contains egg since, and the hives have not returned. its been a couple weeks now.
Hoping that this is the answer for us but am unsure.
Anyways i was just wondering if anyone else had negative testing for egg but ended up testing positive at a later date? or negative testing but happen to be allergic (without actual positive testing)?
