Allergic reaction to allergy shots

My 4th allergy shot didn't go well. I got really itchy, developed a red rash and my throat felt tight. I went back to an office and they gave me a shot of benadryl and had me use my epi pen. They called an ambulance and brought me to the ER. The EMTs tried three times to get an iv but couldn't get one. I was monitored at the ER, given an iv that they didn't use. They had me drink Dex. Said to follow up with family doctor and allergist. I don't think I will be able to get the shots anymore.

when I was little I had an instant reaction to allergy shots-I would have thought all these years later they would have better ways to make sure they knew what to give a person

I had horrible reactions to my allergy shots. The first time the dr had to give me epinephrine shots.
That not only do I have environmental allergies, but I was allerogc to the ingredient they use to bind the allergy shots.
I am now getting Xolair shots and they have helped with the allergies.

I'm glad Xolair is helping with your allergies!*hugs* I read that Xolair is only approved in Canada for people with chronic hives. I only had my IgE tested once while on prednisone which would have made the test inaccurate. I would be scared to try another medication which is injected in case I have an allergic reaction to it.

I had the same thing happen to me about 8 years ago. I was getting worse with the shots and on the fourth one, Anaphylaxis Shock (AS) and balcked out compeltely. The doctor injected the epinephrine in my and when I came to, I was laying on the ground.This was also before I was tested for food allergies as well. Since then, I had gone into AS two more times and had to use my epi pen on myself. I now have both my environmental and food allergies under control. It took alot of anxiety, fear and stubborness to come this far and be able to lead a somewhat normal life style.

How scary Normie!*hugs* I keep developing anaphylactic allergies to foods. I have had anaphylaxis to tree nuts, red bell peppers and strawberries. I also have anaphylaxis to ct contrast dye. I get yearly ct scans with contrast so I have to take prednisone the day before and prednisone/benadryl the day of my scans. How scary you blacked out!*hugs* I'm glad your allergies are under control!*hugs* My asthma doesn't help matter either.
