I am so frustrated. All I want is a summer job, something to earn enough money to have fun this summer, but I CAN'T WORK ANYWHERE. I asked my friends where they're working and I can't work where they are. Ice cream scooper? Yup, i could do that, except for the whole milk/strawberry allergy thing. Hollister/ Abercrombie/ Wet Seal. Cute clothes, major fragrance issues. I have to wash the clothes before I can even wear them, I can't handle working there 6-12 hours a day. Bath and Body Works=death sentence. I'd be on a stretcher in my first hour of work, perfume is so hard on my asthma.
Then i thought i found something!! Babysitting. Three kids, toddler-kindergarten age, $7 an hour, 4 days a week. I got the call back today and they wanted to start me ASAP. Oh, and they also have two cats and a dog and would that be a problem to walk the dog when i take the kids outside.Problem? No, of course not. Not like I need to breathe or anything.

Yes, we do. And I guess I could be a cashier at the grocery store...they're always looking for kids in the summer. I was just really looking forward to that babysitting job.

Oh honey, why don't you just take the job? Air isn't that important. JK JK. Totally kidding. (hugs) I know how allergic to animals you are and I know you're disappointed. It sucks, I know.
You'll find something. Be a tutor, be a cashier, work at the pool (You don't have to be a lifeguard), fast food is always hiring.

ugh you sound a lot like me. I want a job , but everything seems to be against me! If it's not strong fragrances, it's cleaning chemicals. If it's not that, it's pollen or some other health problem. I'd suggest working in a sterile environment that doesn't require you to use strong cleaning chemicals. A store that doesn't do groceries, like someone said the dollar store, or even an office job? Although beware of fellow co workers perfumes, it can be rough

I know about perfume! it's a problem even in high school (which i'm done with as of today!!!!). Groceries shouldn't be a huge problem...My contact allergies are milk and cinnamon, so I doubt I'll be in direct contact with those as a cashier. Although cleaning chemicals might be a problem there. Argh! I think I'll look for tutoring jobs at the library or something. I know they're hiring, and I'd be a good tutor. If not I'll look for an office job. Any other suggestions, guys? I'm so frustrated about this!!

I have thought about working as a server in a restaurant, but I know I would get fired really quickly. I would call in way too much, or be sneezing in people's food. And if someone walked in with a ton of perfume on, I would just die.

Wherever you work, make sure they don't allow customers to bring their animals in if you have allergies to dogs / cats. Some retail places allow that depending on the local laws. I worked at Home Goods, and I thought I was safe (although I had to be careful in the candle aisle), but then realized that they let people bring their dogs in...asthma attack!

Jen, I can't work in a restaurants because of food allergies. I break out in a rash if I touch milk products or cinnamon, and I'm afraid to think of what would happen if i was around shellfish, since I'm anaphylactic to it. But what you mentioned would be an issue too.

Oh and important point about the animals, I didn't think about that.
