Wherever you work, make sure they don't allow customers to bring their animals in if you have allergies to dogs / cats. Some retail places allow that depending on the local laws. I worked at Home Goods, and I thought I was safe (although I had to be careful in the candle aisle), but then realized that they let people bring their dogs in...asthma attack!
Oh and important point about the animals, I didn't think about that.
