Why could this be happening?

Just a little history on this. I joined Weight Watchers back in April of this year, I wanted to loose about 20lbs. I reached my goal weight about 3 months ago, which was a big surprise seeing how as I wasn't "tracking" my points anymore at the time. I brushed it off thinking I am just making better choices automatically with food.

The last few weeks I have been having a hard time sticking to my goal weight. I am 6lbs under and there is no way that should be happening with what I have been eating and the amount. It has been a struggle. I have been having some appetite problems but the times I can't eat, I drink meal replacement shakes. And when I am hungry, I have been taking full advantage of it. It has gotten to a point that I don't care what goes into my body. I eat alot of "junk". At first I tried to do it the healthy way and I would keep loosing weight.

I've seen my GP and spoke with her about this, she had blood drawn and checked some things out and they came back normal. I have also been experiencing a "gagging" sensation and we at this time don't know what is causing it. We have ruled some things out and are still at it. I've been assuming it has been from the pain, but I'm not completely convinced.

Any thoughts?

esophogastric nutcracker syndrome???

You know, you may be on to something. I Googled this and it brought my to "renal nutcracker syndrome" and my symptoms fit almost to a tee!! All except the gagging thing, but I still feel that has to do with the pain. The esophogastric version suggests that the patient doesn't have the ability to swallow, ( I can't remember what the disorder is called ) and that isn't the case with me. Although I absolutely cannot eat when I experience it, I can however drink. I don't know if that is relavent.

Also, the "renal" version can be misdiagnosed as pelvic congestion as it has many of the same symptoms. As you probably know, I suspected that I may have pelvic congestion, I just need to get myself in front of a doctor that agrees with me and get the proper scan done to detect it.

My brother had a bad case of acid reflux that he needed surgery for. After his surgery, all his symtoms went away. His main symtom was gagging and not be able to eat (though he could drink). Anyway, just a thought...

DON'T drink the Slim Fast meal replacement shakes...there has been a huge recall of them! Wish I had some other advice for you.

yeah that's right. although nutcracker can cause pelvic congestion.. so maybe not a misdiagnosis.. but a missed one of nutcracker causing it.

a tip on getting a doc to send you to one. alot of people who end up going to IR's for PCS are self referred. i had to do this also, i called them, made an appointment and then got my doc to write a referral... she was slightly hesitant and even called him to see what i was on about *rolls eyes* hehe.
just be firm and say you would like to see an IR for a venography for PCS.
