Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
However I get tired a bit more easily than normal and I'm sure I'm still healing a bit internally.
So has life returned 100% back to normal? Sure.
Am I 100% back to normal? Not quite.
But you have to ask yourself what percentage was your life at before the surgery. And when I ask myself I was probably functioning at less than 50%. Sex hurt, exercise hurt, working at my job hurt and it was incredibly unpleasant and inconvenient. Although had I had a vacation with all of that I still would have gone.
If I had a vacation now i would be ecstatic. Even though I'm not 100% I'm better than I have been in years.
I had an invasive lap (4 incisions, over 3 hours long) with a ton of excision and I traveled right at the 2 week mark home to visit family. I was still very sore at that point so my husband took care of luggage but I was able to go through the airport and everything fine. I was still taking percocet (albeit a lower dose) and had the doctor's ok to go. If you're flying make sure to ask your doctor or his/her nurse and let them know the flight time because of clot risks after surgery. My flight time was just under 2 hours and it was ok.
That said, there's no way I could have gone hiking or anything strenuous at the 1 month mark...even a lot of walking wore me out big time even if I wasn't hurting too much at that point.
You will prob get tired easier after surgery for a few weeks but you'll get your strength back.
My first lap was in August of 2012 and despite being super pale and light skinned you can barely, barely see the scars and I would absolutely have worn a bikini had I not had another lap. The first lap's belly button incision was horizontal and it changed the way my belly button looked, but only someone looking closely would notice.
My second lap however, I don't know if it's due to the length of surgery, suture technique, or what but my scars are a lot more visible and actually stick out a bit. I will probably be a one piece bathing suit person unless they calm down...This lap was February of this year so they still have some time to fade I suppose. The incisions themselves were bigger too although they're still pretty small with the largest being about an inch. He also did a vertical belly button incision and this made my belly button look more like it's normal self, the scar looks a bit like an extra crease in the skin is all. Part of my issue with lap #2 is the incisions were much higher and consequently much more noticeable. All this said though I don't think people would stare even at my pretty noticeable ones - they still mostly look like little pink lines at a quick glance.
