from what i understand and from reading testimonials that other women have posted...i believe that you can still have endo even after a hysterectomy. if it was a definite cure i would be having or would have already had a hysterectomy. there are a few theories on what causes endo but no one knows for sure why we have it and therefore without a cause there is no cure. if you have a hysterectomy now you would be at serious risk for major bone loss and osteoporosis. if you take hormone replacement pills you will still be fueling any remaining endo that was left behind or missed during the hysterectomy, just like your ovaries are doing now...so what's the point of removing them? you're way to young for this and i can't believe your doctor would even consider this. i'm 33 and think i'm too young as well. i would definitely seek a second and/or even a third opinion before even considering such a radical treatment. also there are a handful of endometriosis specialists that may in fact be able to successfully remove your endo and preserve your fertility. what other treatments have you tried aside from surgery?

I have frends on here who even after a hysterectmy endo has returned. Hopefully one of them comment on here for you =)

I'd seek another opinion. I am going to ask why he said you can't have children with stage II endo? I have stage II endo (I know every case is different) but currently the doctor's believe child bearing isnt an issue (based on my lap earlier in the year) for me. I would deffinately get a second opinion!!

As theotherchick has mentioned there are many issues that can be associated with the hyst. to your body.

I thought the same thing once, Endo is purely about the periods making it shed. BUT what I've learnt since my diagnosis from my professor who conducts world conferences of Endo etc is that while that happens and is true, the endo grows wherever and they don't know WHY if they did he said they'd have a cure for it. It might not with no periods, and some medications can keep it at bay it can grow or even spread regardless of your period each month.

Theotherchick is right, you can have a type of surgery that can remove it.It can be VERY successful I've heard!

I hope you get the help you need for this, get 5 opinions if you have to/can! You need to make sure you have ALL the info you can get about ALL your options! =)

GET MORE OPINIONS!!!!! You are way too young to jump to such drastic measures! Unless your doctor has super human sight that can seek out endo and remove it ALL, do not just get a hysterectomy!! Surgical intervention should be the absolute LAST resort! Especially on stage II!!! Where is the endo located? Doesn't matter. There are other treatments to explore!

I went through 3 gynos telling me I should get a hysterectomy, THAT'S the reason why they are NOT treating me any longer. I finally found ( and on my own BTW ) a specialist ( endo/pelvic pain) that doesn't believe in just "taking it out". I've had to pretty much start over with him and I have to travel 2 hours one way but it's totally worth it!!!

I have been told by many peers to just get it over with! When I tell them WHY I don't do this, they are completely confused because of what they have been told by others. ( i.e. media, doctors, etc. ) Endometriosis is a hormonal driven auto immune disease, it is not simply caused by "period back-up". If that were the case, MEN wouldn't get it. YES, I said MEN! Men who receive hormonal treatments due to perhaps prostate cancer are susceptible. Ask a OBGYN about that after they explain why you have endo. The lesions can reach as far as your brain. How on earth can a backed up period reach that far? Because it SPREADS and if you have someone that doesn't know what to look for...

Please, PLEASE, get more opinions on this!! I would recommend finding a specialist. I know this can be hard to do sometimes but you are worth the effort.

I'm sorry, but I have to add... if it is recommended that you be treated with birth control, make sure it is estrogen free. Estrogen FEEDS endo.

You need to find another doctor, a specialist. A hysterectomy is NOT a cure. There are many women who have had a hysterectomy and still have endo. It is not just caused from having periods. I don't have periods, yet I am in pain everyday from endo. You can have excision surgery to remove it without having a hysterectomy. There is also no way to tell if you will be able to have children. A doctor can't predict that. Many women with endo do have children. Please find a specialist.

Oh goodness, I agree with SSWarning. Don't take anything with estrogen!!!!!! I'm not sure if that helps at all with this discussion, but I agree so much that I felt compelled to add. :)

dont do it, I did it, didnt work. I now have chronic pain, everyday. I had endo grow on ureter, bowel bladder, hyst is not a cure. SOme women do get relief from it. Going into surgical menopause is not fun, I had tot try every kind of hormone, thought I was going nuts!
Find a endo specialist, not just a gyn.

There is nothing wrong with taking birth control pills with estogen. There is not enough estrogen in the pills to feed the endo. Birth control pills with estrogen actually lower the body's natural production of estrogen, that's why they are often perscribed for endo. Without the pill, your body actually makes more estrogen than what a pill has in it. Progesterone only pills are actually not a good idea to take. They are way less effective. They also cause a lot of break through bleeding, which is not a good idea for women with endo. They can also cause a lot more weight gain.
