well ive done some thinking and i think i was really just so excited to have insurance again that i jumped the gun and maybe a hysto isnt the answer although im keeping it as an option i just would like to have an excision surgery or something. any tips on talking to the doc about this or has anyone experienced one of these?

hi there

its best to get an excision speacialist. theres this place called center for endometriosis care in georgia where the doctors speacilaze in excision surgery for endo. btw this is the best way to remove endo since they cut it out and not just laser the top. im happy you have insurance, now i have to find me some lol. good luck

I agree - apparently excision (or at least very good removal) of the endo or adhesions is really crucial in getting rid of pain for a period of time. Also, if you are having severe cramps and nothing has relieved it (prior surgery, meds etc.), you can have a procedure during a lap called a 'pre sacral neurectomy' or LUNA. Some specialized endo surgeons do it and I had one this year. I have not have ONE cramp since then. I can actually work on period days sometimes. I do stil get adhesion pain, bowel problems etc., but I used to have 40-50 hours of horrible cramps that would make me vomit during my period. Now I have none! I take less painkillers, which is easier on my stomach and body. Try to find a great endo centre and ask about this.

Also, you could try acupuncture (hey if you are willing to remove your uterus, you can try a few needles), which is fairly painless and has basically kept me functioning for a year while I try to conceive.

Hang in there, there are answers and with the right docs you will get them. Put up a post with your city and ask what doctors there help, someone will know one nearby (this website is how I found my amazing surgeon in Ontario Canada)!

I had a lap done almost 5 years ago and it really did work for awhile. It's only been the last year that my pain has returned and my dr and I decided to go the route of the hyst. I'm glad you're considering other options, and the best thing to do is to talk to your gyn, go through your symptoms, history, treatments tried, etc and decide what the best next step is for you. All of us are different and the endo seems to affect us similarly at times but the treatments don't. It's best to write everything down so you don't miss anything once you're there and I wish you lots of luck finding the right thing for you!!

Hi, there! I am so glad that you have decided not to just jump at the chance to take the drastic step of having a hysterectomy. It ia a major decision to make. And a hysterectomy is not a guaranteed cure for endo. Try the excision surgery. It has high success rates. Let the doc examine you fully (ultrasound and internal exam). Explain your symptoms to him. Let him know that you were considering a hysterectomy, due to the severity of your symptoms. Discuss the possibility of an excision surgery with your doc. He /she can advise you best. It is worth a shot. I wish you well :)
