Hi all,
I have had problems with all my periods since I started getting them at 13. Heavy bleeding, bleeding for prolonged amounts of time-up to a full month, painful all the time before and after my periods start etc. I haven't had a lap done, but I have a mirena in place and while it has decreased how much blood I lose, but still irregular and varies between spotting and having a heavier period sporadically and usually that's when I get bad pains enough to make me curl up into a ball. I woke up at 2am to that familiar pain and while the worst of it was over after 2 hours, I was still tender. I am almost 30 and I am wondering if I should have a lap done, my Dr wanted me to have a hysterectomy done a while back, but the Gynaecologist basically said I was too young at the time. I am not having more children due to medical reasons and truth be told, I don't want periods due to the hassle that they cause me. Is it worth me having a lap done if I have a mirena in place. My Dr suspected endo years ago, I even have cysts rupture which are painful too. Usually my period pain is always on my right side and travels right up to my shoulder, but this time it had started in the left side in my pelvic area and travelled across to my right, never happened before. Sorry for the long drawl, I'm confused about it all right now.

So while getting a lap is a decision only you can make I highly suggest it if you are wanting to 1) know if you have endo and 2) want more information about this before making such a huge decision as being a hysterectomy.
With the heavy bleeding I wonder if anyone has brought up the possibility of adenomyosis? Unfortunately it can only be definitely diagnosed after a hysterectomy, but many ob/gyn's can heavily suspect it based on a lap and your uterus' appearance. In the case of suspected adeno I'd be more willing to have a hysterectomy, although I'd keep my ovaries still (they are often removed when dealing with endo).
