What did you have done that required a mesh?

They are usually for pelvic organ prolapse, hernias, and I think bladder slings too. As far as whether it dissolves or not, it depends on the type. Some are meant to be permanent. I did not have any during my surgery, but I did not have prolapse or anything either.

There are also adhesion barriers that are relatively commonly used during endo surgery because we tend to get so many adhesions...I have never heard them called mesh before, but I suppose it's possible?

I had the adhesion barriers during my last surgery, but my doctor referred to it as a thin mesh film. I would think that your doctor may be referring to the same thing.
From what I understood I had endo pretty bad in one area, close to something like my colon (I've had several surgeries so specifics are hard to remember sometimes). He put a barrier there in hopes that I would not need to have more endo removed from that area because it was a pretty scarred up area and they wouldn't want the risk of having to remove more adhesions there and possibly cause further damage. I never asked if it was permanent or if it would dissolve. Now I'm going to check it out.

I had mesh put in during my last lap. My doctor wrapped my ovaries in it so they could heal without adhering to anything. The kind I got dissolves on its own but even if it doesn't you won't need to have it surgically removed. I promise it's nothing to freak out over. Hope you're healing well!

Mesh can be pretty nasty stuff, but there are reasons for using it. There have been several recalls and complicatiins however. Its always better to try to go without. Its a shame you did not know ahead of time. It will defi ately be something you need to know about so you know if something goes wrong with it. There are lots of ways to provide slings without mesh by using the persons own tissue, but that is besides the point now. I would be a little upset if I were you. Can you verify consent records somehow. I hope it works out ok. Hopefully you can find out why and what kind soon.

That's why I asked what she had the mesh for because I think that adhesion barrier mesh is different than like a bladder sling mesh. I'm not positive about that though.

He gave me a video of the entire procedure, that is the only reason I know he put that inside of me. I'm pretty sure it is the barrier stuff you guys are referring too. But I was just totally blind sided. I know that he would never do something I didn't need but it just freaks me out he didn't tell me before hand. I hope I don't need this crap taken out because I am extremely tired of surgery. I haven't had my post operation appt. but he better be ready to answer a lot of questions. I have very intense pain with my endo, not to mention cysts, but he said there wasn't as much as he expected. I do think there was quite a bit from watching the video but he is the doctor. Very exhausted from all of this not to mention I am a full time student and I work part time. I think I have gotten to the point where I would rather try for a baby rather than to get surgery again.

Sometimes they don't know until they go in that you'll need something, maybe that's what happened there? How is your recovery? I'm getting mine done Feb 28th and really freaking out.

I had mesh to keep my bladder from adhering to my uterus and colon from adhering to anything it shouldn't...magical stuff and it dissolves on its own over time like dissolvable stitches.

My recovery has been horrid worst one yet I went to the ER because I hadn't made a bowel movement. I had been drinking coffee warm prune juice water and lots of fiber nothing worked. I have had an extreme amount of pain. I haven't been able to walk on my own since Friday :(. It sucks I never want to do this again.

That really ticks me off that your doctor didn't tell you he was putting mesh into your body. They can be so negligent. I hope you are feeling better. Doctors wanted to do a hernia repair on my husband with mesh and I was scared to let them. But I know some types are dissolvable, so I hope that is what you got.
