I had surgery once, last fall. It began as being diagnostic, but afterwards, I found that the doctor removed (cut and burnt out) endometriosis and also cysts from my pelvic area. After a month of recovery I began to feel hopeful, and had no pain, and then a month after that, the sharp pangs of pain began to resurface. I suppose in my case, to conclude, the surgery did work for a short amount of time (very short!), but in the end, at least I know for sure that that is really what I have/had.

I\'ve had 2 sugeries and on my 2nd one they lazered off most of my endometriosis. After my surgery was horriable pain-wise for about a month, and then i had about 3 months of no pain. Then it all came back. Right now I\'m using a high dosage of birth conrol to supress my period, and it\'s helped with the pain some. I still have at least one really bad week a month of pain. Hopefully I\'ll find a sew treatment option soon.

I suffered from endo for years. I am now 35, had a hysterectomy in Aug. and feel great. My doctor wrote a book about endo, his name is Dr. Thomas Lyons in Atlanta GA. He has patients travel from around the country to see him. His primary goal is to keep everything in tact. He operated on me in 1999 and I had wonderful results. I called him this year because of some increased pain etc and ultimately, asked for a hysterectomy. Since I had been stage IV endo with the first surgery, he expected some to have returned after 7 years but since I have remained very active he said I probably kept things at bay. I was just ready to put it behind me, didn\'t want periods anymore and feared I would someday end up with a pregnancy in my 40\'s (even though I have never conceived). I highly recommend talking with him, checking out his website, reading his book... I hear so many horror stories and I am just so lucky to have found such a wonderful doctor. Before I found him, I had 3 or 4 different surgeries by as many surgeons, everyone was amazed by the severity of my case but everyone just wanted to do a hysterectomy. At the age of 26, I wasn\'t ready to do that, especially with doctors who didn\'t seem to have a full understanding of the disease. I am scheduled for surgery on January 4th. Can you tell me what to expect or what I should be prepared for? I am a little nervous. How long did it take for you to recover? How much pain were you in after the surgery? Thanks in advance for your response! :-)

Hi when I had my surgery. It took a while for me to realize the pain was even there, that is after the drugs wore off. After my surgery (that day) I spent a LOT of time in bed sleeping. The only time I really experienced pain directly after my surgery was trying to sit up, lay back down, get out of a car, and get into a car. Along with some swelling of my stomach things were pretty good. Just becareful not to do too much movement, you might pop a stitch out (thats what i did). But everyone experiences different things during a surgery and after a surgery. Some people\'s recovery takes a little bit longer where some people are fine after a day or two. Just don\'t worry about it..aslong as you are in good hands things will go smoothly!

My experience was generally positive; my doctor chose to sever nerves and when I woke up, I felt better within hours. I recovered fairly easily and I am glad that I had it done.

The relief did not last that long (maybe a year or two) but in my situation the difference was dramatic as I felt great immediately following.

I am seeing doctor tomorrow and would prefer that he recommend surgery route; Lupron scares me.

I am new here and have endo pain that cripples my body and mind. I dislike the idea of taking medications that may likely deepen my voice, cause weight gain, etc. to lessen my pain. So, for individuals like me, my question is: Do we continue on with the rest of our lives undergoing laparoscopy after laparoscopy to dull the pain?

The surgeries do not bother me as long as the pain ceases for awhile. However, I fear these surgeries will only help so far and the end result will be not getting pregnant and eventually having a hysterectomy (or vice versa).

Hi, my name is Kelsey and I had laparscopic surgery for endometriosis in August. My surgeon was Dr. Redwine who is located in Bend, Oregon and is an endometriosis specialist. His methods are slightly different from other endometriosis surgeons. He believes in excising the lesions with cauterizing sizzors instead of lazering them away. The idea is that by doing this he is able to completely remove all the tissue even tissue that is extremely deep. A benefit to this is that he is then able to biopsey the tissue and diagnos it without a doubt as endometriosis. I had some trouble recovering because I got a UTI from the caphiter(sp?) but generally had a good experience with the hospital and staff. I was able to feel confident that he was able to get rid of all the tissue. I have been pain free for 3 months but over the past 3 days I have been experiencing pain again. It is frustrating because I don\'t know if this is temporary or if I will have to deal with the severe endo pain all over again. I am praying that this is not the case, but it is really hard not to be discouraged!

I had a laparoscopy 12 days ago. It started when I had an HSG last May and wanted a second opinion. One of my friends referred me to the surgeon she used. I found out one of my fallopian tubes was not near my ovary. After the worst 6 months of cramps, headaches, and depression, I realized that I did not want to live with the pain. I am one that does not take any over the counter meds, and I don\'t want to take any hormones. It came to the point that I needed to have something to help the pain. (which only helped a little)

My surgery only took one hour, but 2 hours of recovery time in the hospital. I was on meds for a couple days and then on ibuprofen for a week. I am feeling much better and I am glad I did this. I was very worried about surgery but I made it through OK. They say 2 to 3 days to recover, but I recommend that if you can take a week off. I could not have been at work on day 4 or 5!

I have done a lot of research on endo and realized that the surgery is only the beginning to a long live of living with endo. I am looking into how my nutrition affects endo and start using some traditional chinese medicine (TCM). Such as acupuncture and massage. I don\'t want to take any hormones to get through this. I am still in the mind frame of not putting anything extra in my body if I can find other methods that work.

If any of you have tried any of these methods it would be nice to get feedback.

I have not recieced surgery yet my doctor want to try a birth control pill first. i am scared because i have been on depo which i didnt havea period but i was still having pain. i feel the pill will not work because i will have a period which i know i will have pain. i tried to talk to my mom, and my sister but they dont want to talk about it. the only person i can talk to is my best friend who is also my roommate. she had endo, and is such a big help. can anyone tell me what to expect before, durning, and after surgery?

I was on the pill for 12 years. I still had pain but nothing like the pain when I was off of the pill. I was not diagnosed until this year when we went into the doctor because we have not been able to get pregnant. I went off the pill 4 years ago and the doctor said that going off allowed my endo to grow. He said that if I stayed on pill that I probably would have gotten in the first year of being off of the pill.

I just had surgery 3 weeks ago. I was so nervous. But now I can\'t figure out why. Everything went well for me and I am finally feeling better. The one thing I suggest is take the week after the surgery off. This is so you heal in your own time. I had my surgery on a Thursday and they told me that I should be ready for work on Monday. But I took the week off and glad I did. There was no way I would have made it Monday or Tuesday!

I was having surgery to remove a cyst which come to find out was caused by Endometriosis. I felt great for a couple of weeks but the pain was back. At the time my DR. did not explain anything about the Endo. I had to find out on my own. After about 9 months of pain and it getting worse He finally put me on the BirthControl but it is not working either.

The surgery was nothing. Recovery was fairly simple as you said except for the extra gas the first few days. I am like you. I don\'t like taking Meds. Even though the surgery was simple I don\'t want to go through many more.

I had surgery about 1 year ago. The procedure itself was simple. No problems not much pain after. I had 3 very small incisions which you hardly notice now. Recovery was easy but there is extra gas you have to deal with since they blow up your abdomen. Just lie down as much as possible and it passes in a few days.

But the surgery did not work for me. My new Doctor explained that it is very hard to use surgery as a treatment because Endo is usually microscopic and they can\'t be sure the removed it all.

I read your roommate had it. Did she get rid of it and how?

I had sugery in May of 06.The recovery was not to bad and after about 3 weeks I felt great,but in Sep.of 06 it started more pain then I ever felt. I did not have this much pain before the sugery. I went to the hospital in Dec. because I couldn\'t sit and I was doubled over in pain. They said I had pelvic inflammatory disease. I new I did not have that.Went to my dr that did the sugery the next day and he said the lab test\'s showed I did not have P.I.D. that it was just the endo.I don\'t want to have any more sugery\'s I just want to feel normal again.Oh and then the week before X-mas 06 I went to ER in alot of pain except it was in my back right side too they told me I had a kidney stone.Now I have to go to another DR for that. I hope 07 is a better year!

I just had two cyst removed and excision of Endo done with scissors. The surgeon is a specialist based in New York. It's two days later. The surgery lasted five hours
