Hi everyone. I had my lap surgery 24 days ago and I've been feeling great...except there is a piece of plastic stitch sticking out of the skin inside my belly button! I noticed it a day or two after my post-op appointment and I had my mom check with a flashlight to confirm that it wasn't just a piece of skin. She said it should dissolve/fall out on it's own (my gyno specifically told me that if she used stitches they'd be dissolvable) but we're almost a month out and I feel like it shouldn't still be there. I tried to pull it out but it's not budging and it's pretty uncomfortable when I pull on it. Anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice besides call the doctor? I don't want to take any more time off from work if I don't have to. Thanks!

I had some sticking out as well and it made it hard for the wound to heal up so my doctor just snipped it out as close to the skin as possible. Healed up great after that. I did that at about 3 weeks, so right about where you are now. My only potential advise would be to cut it yourself if you or your mom are ok with it. But I let my doc do it to be safe! I am a chicken with this sort of thing. He really got right in the incision to get the most out he could (only hurt a tiny bit), which might be hard to do without the right scissors.

I've had something sticking out of my belly button since October and haven't dealt with it either. So far, so good and it's pretty hidden so I haven't done anything about it.

If you're concerned about time off work, chances are it's ok unless it starts hurting.

I have stitches sticking out my incisions.. They don't bother me so much but I am going to get my doc to cut them as she did for my first surgery!!!

i had a stitch poking out for over a month, just put a bandaid over it so it didnt catch on my clothes :)

Thanks, everyone. I have to say, it's really amazing to know that there are so many people here who share my experiences, even the silly little ones like a stitch poking out of my skin! I don't know anyone in my real life who has endometriosis and I am really grateful that I found this forum. I will have my mother trim it for me (she used to be a medical assistant so I trust her!). Thanks again everyone! :)

Sometimes the body rejects even the dissolving sutures. It's sticking out because the body is trying to get rid of it as a foreign object. My skin will often ulcerate and the sutures will have to be removed by the doctor. Leaves a scar for sure. One type of suture I can not have is called Vicryl. I even read recently there was a recall on this suture material.

I found I had stitches sticking out of my belly button a few weeks after my op and it started to catch on my t shirt and I ended up getting my dad to pull it out ( it was driving me that crazy)

I would get the doctor to take it out for you as it will heal quicker once its taken out. Should not need to take anymore time off to get it removed.

I have been fiddling with it like crazy...and exactly 1 month post-op, it popped right out!
