It depends. If you dont have a lot of endo removed during your first lap (or all), and you're in a lot of pain or having issues TTC, of course a 2nd lap, if performed by a good dr. who can remove most or all of the endo, then yes, of course its good. Sometimes when you have severe endo, or agressive endo, we need many laps.
But in other cases, if a women keeps having crappy laps, where they're not removing enough endo, then its more harmful. My aunt has had 20 plus laps, they've all been laser, with regular OB/GYN's and every time they opened her up, there was severe endo. Using her as an example, she has made very poor choices. She is much worse off than she should be with her health; bionix in her back, walks with a kane, and had a stroke (only in her 40's).

Surgery should be used when necessary but sparingly. Some of us may need more than others, and the most important thing is to have a good surgery.

I agree with Yankees - there are a lot of variables that should be taken into account when deciding on whether to have another lap.

One thing I would add is that my first lap felt more like it was strictly diagnostic and I think this is pretty common [with the US medical system anyways] because of the need for referrals to see many specialists. I didn't actually need a referral...but I didn't know I had endo either so I did not realize I should seek out a specialist if I actually wanted the endo thoroughly removed during the lap. I had a second lap 6ish months later for actual treatment purposes. I got zero relief from the first lap, and immediate improvement from the second...so I would definitely say I needed the second one although I wish I had sought out a specialist from the start!

Are you considering one? When was your first lap? How was the diagnosis? What are your current goals (reduced pain, increased fertility)? I had 2 laps within 6 months, and the second lap both reduced pain and increased my probability of carrying a baby full-term, and I am now pregnant. I was seeing a fertility expert at the time and they recommended the lap, otherwise I would have likely had another ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. But that was determined after a lot of tests.

I plan on one more lap at least after giving birth because...they have never removed endo on me! My diagnosis was a result of a chocolate cyst and tons of scar tissue. But with both laps they never removed tissue that was endo, and according to dr cook (check out his book), I will still have pain and problems until the endo is removed. Chocolate cysts are a byproduct of endo, so I have the disease, but where the heck is it?

Thank you for your helpful responses. I have had one lap over 2 years ago. It was "mild/moderate atypical endometriosis" when I was 18. I'm having problems again so I'm not sure what's going to happen next. Endo that was on my ureter was left untreated.
