Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
I'm going to try a new doctor. I can never get in to see my doctor when I need to, and then when I do go in, she basically tells me I need to do Lupron or Mirena and if I say no, there's nothing else she can do.
I found a "specialist" online who I'm excited to try. He specializes in chronic pelvic pain from endo, fibroids, and bladder issues. I listened to a radio program he did online and read up a bit on him. He mentioned many options...a few of which I had never heard of! One of them was seizure meds! Has anyone heard of this or tried it?
I am going to call this week for an appt. I'm excited to hear there might be more options out there!

I think I've heard of gabapentin (seizure med also used for bipolar disorder) used for chronic pain. Does anyone know more about that? Let us know what you find out!

gabapentin is also used for nerve pain. Also Topamax can be used for pain as well. I never took Topamax for my endo, but did take it for years from migraines, I don't know if it is a coincidence but I had MUCH less pain. I had actually been thinking of asking my pain Dr about putting me back on this med to see if it helps. The plus to Topamax is unlike most meds...it causes weight loss not weight gain!

My doctor has had me on gabapentin for my pain and it does help a little. It is a seizure med. It makes me tired so i cant quite take the whole dose he wants me to. Everytime i try to stop taking it i have an increase in pain so i think it helps some.

This is encouraging. Even if it isn't the perfect answer, it is nice to hear there are some other options besides lupron! I'm sure it will take me awhile to get in to see him, but I'll keep you posted on what he says.

It takes a while to work and build up to a working dose level without being tired. If it will take a while to get in and see him or her and this is already something you discussed maybe you can leave a message to say you would like to try it and get a script called in sooner? Just an idea so you dont have to wait to get started.

I have used gabapentin, it did not agree with me- but was put on lyrica- same difference, mas o menos- and i have used it for years- actually scared of how long :( but yes, i had it prescribed for my pain- both and the lyrica works
