Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
I am twenty-two and have had three laparoscopies over the last four or five years. I have continually been on implanon or nexplanon birth control, as estrogen makes my symptoms worse. The birth control helps but recently my symptoms have become terrible. My adhesions usually affect my bowel and it causes gastrointestinal issues and a tugging feeling. Additionally, my pain is out of control. I figured my doctor would jsut schedule another surgery but he just told me that he wants me to give Lupron a try but after reading reviews, I am terrified. ANy advice from someone who has tried it?
My experience: After being diagnosed last February at 22, my doctor wanted to do lupron. Like you I was terrified by the reviews, but I listened to my doctor. For me it's a decision I regret. I was on the 1 shot that lasted 3 months. There is a flare up of symptoms but then it's supposed to go down. I don't know if it was the lupron that jump started other unknown diseases to start, but I do know my body reacted badly to lupron. My bones and intestines were the worst. I had to have a lot of tests and different medicines that lasted for months because of the side effects. Since then I've been diagnosed with celiac disease and fibromyalgia. I have no proof that the fibro was caused by the lupron, but I never had pains like that until it.
If you do decide to do it, I would recommend doing the 1 shot that lasts a month that way you will have more control on when you stop. I don't like lupron, but every medication works differently with each person so I don't have a recommendation, I know how hard it can be when you are in pain. Good luck!
Right now I'm on a medication for treating endometriosis called Visanne, it isn't working for me but I have heard that lots of people have success with it.
