Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Now I am doing accupuncture and it is the bomb for pain. Don't ask me how, it just is. 24 hrs after the treatment, I feel relief.
I agree with the other posts, check that you don't have a cyst. It was the worst for me when I had an ectopic pregnancy and a large cyst.
fabulous.....my lower back has gotten to the point where it's seized up every damn day and i can't stand for more than 10 mins at a time...i'm stuck using a wheelchair whenever i have to go anywhere....really sux to try to shop in one!!!! so, i'm pretty much stuck at home all the time now and am (hopefully temporarily) disabled. receiving benefits finally after a long fight to obtain it.
i really hope you find an answer to what's happening to you and if you do i would be extremely appreciative if you would let me know and send an update. so sorry tho and i know that when weird stuff like that happens it's frightening. i totally did not write this post to scare you and hope it does not but just lets you know that there are odd things that endo can cause....and some of my issues may be adverse long term side effects of the lupron injections i've taken...i don't know at this point aside from the sciatic pain that i know is endo related. lupron was the only thing that totally freed me from that pain and it returned only when the shots wore off....but with my back and some other oddities that are occurring i will have to keep pressing for answers.
hugs~jen
I have an update on my back: it did get better. 2 laparoscopy surgeries and I have minimal back pain. They removed scar tissue that was pulling on my muscles which probably caused problems with the nerves. I used to get these horrible horrible shooting pains into my toes and back up, and I don't anymore. Have you considered getting another lap? That totally sucks that you are disabled.
I must also ask: have they tested for MS? My uncle has MS and I know that problems in the extremities is one of the symptoms. Seeing as you are seeing a neurologist, I would bet they did consider this...
Gosh! I'm so sorry to hear your news, and hope that you either learn to cope with the new symptom or find a good treatment. Huge hugs...
About 7 years ago I asked my doctor about two painful spots on my lower back. My low back pain seemed to spread out from there and there were these two knotty things. It hurt to put pressure on them. My Gnyo said it was fat. Since when does fat feel pain? Last year I was getting a massage and my therapist got to that point in my back. She was so shocked at how tight I was. My prior massages were always for my shoulders and neck. Those two knots? She told me they were knotted muscles. Why the pain and tightness? That part of the pelvis is where your muscles attach your Uterus to it! If there is a problem with your uterus you can also feel it in your lower back, due to the muscles being pulled, twisted, etc. Have your back checked out by either a reputable chiropractor or a massage therapist (both if you can afford it). I first felt those two painful knots in tenth grade. It's gonna take me years, if it's even possible, to get those muscles loose and in proper order again. I currently can't afford any more massages so I am doing yoga stretches when I can, and heat therapy is a daily help.
If muscles in the hip region are messed up, they can pinch nerves that run through there, especially the sciatic. They can also put pressure on the major blood vessels. I used to have really bad numbness in my left leg at the same time I would have painful sciatic pain. It would start as intense low back and hip pain, spread to my entire vaginal area and then down my leg. It used to freak me out, till I learned what was going wrong. I've learned more about anatomy with endo than all my years in school. lol
I tried PT, nothing. The cortisone shots to my spine helped, but were temporary. My doc has since said this makes sense because cortisone reduces inflammation in the area where they inject, so duh! It helped.
But only temporarily. It started in my butt. Just my right cheek, which was also weird because the herniated disc was protruding more to the left, the docs didn't quite know what was going on. Then it started to hurt over my hip too. a few times it would radiated all the way down my leg to my heel or foot. But it mainly stayed in my butt and hip. After the first lap, I saw an improvement. I could lift my than 10 lbs without my back going out!
Then before my second surgery it got worse, I couldn't even twist in the waist in my yoga class (gentle yoga class, with a bunch or grannies) without crying. It was aweful. But, that too went away after my second lap.
My back is still not perfect, I cannot wear heels without getting a pins and needles sensation but hey, it is soooooooooo much better than before when I was practically in tears many times because of the pain.
Doctors really frustrated me. Back doctors don't know endo. And my 'expert endo specialist' that I drove all the way to John Hopkins to see told me and I quote 'your back is not a reproductive organ, so I wouldn't treat it.
Arrrrrrrrrrgh! So if I seem synical about endo doctors, this is why. I finally found A single endo doctor in California who treats back issues too (dr cook) and so my next surgery will be with him so maybe I can get the rest of my range of motion back. I know I haven't technically met him yet, and yet I build him up a lot on this board, but he's the only one I've found who says they treat ever symptom. Sigh, ok, I will stop rambling.
Ktk, I hold out hope for resolving some or all of the back pain. Can you imagine life without back issues? Amazing idea, right?
