Lose 2nd tube, now ok

Last Monday our fertility doc recommended I go get another lap (5 months after the 1st), and probably remove my one remaining tube.

It feels so scary because that is our only window to natural childbirth. After that, it is IVF or nothing. So many ppl think it is a great thing. They say 'this will increase your chances of a successful IVF cycle, and u'll have ur baby!'

They are wrong, way wrong, It is scary to go down this road and I originally thought we would continue to try naturally till Christmas, then have the surgery. Welllll...less than a week later and I am now ready for this next chapter. The truth is, I am much more likely to either miscarriage or have an ectopic with my wonky tube.

I don't need this stinking tube to be a woman!

Anyone else facing a tough decision head on? Any words of wisdom?

Aww, you poor thing. I can't imagine the emotions you might be feeling right now. I'm sorry! Try not to listen to other people. If there's one thing I've learned from endo, it's not to pretend to understand how someone is feeling unless you have been in their shoes.

I am so sorry. I have had one tube removed, but my RE said it wasn't worth it to try on our own we have male and female factors. It is upsetting knowing that IVF is your only option, I was so upset when I found that out. I am now on my two week wait from my third IVF cycle. The only thing that made me feel better was knowing that I atleast still had an option to get pregnant. Honestly the pain from IVF is nothing compared to what we go through with ENDO each month. But IVF is emotionally draining, so I'm here if you ever need advice or if you want to talk. (Hugs)

I'm not facing the same decision, but I have some decision to be made regarding another lap and possibly a partial hysterectomy.

You don't need a stinking tube and I don't need a stinking uterus...

Hasn't really made me so confident in making a decision though :(

I say wait until you are confident in your decision... it sounds like you are and if so that is great. Just make sure whatever decision you make is one you can be satisfied with and have no regrets. I have to make a decision soon, but I'm waiting for this reason.

Thank you, your posts made me feel better and I called and pushed up my appointment with the surgeon. I'll now meet with him this Wednesday - wish us luck!!!

This post helped, and also the article I just found. Ok, so in truth I'm a mathematician (ewe, right?) and so seeing the statistics pushed me over the edge. The article said that women with stage IV endo have a 2% to 5% chance of conceiving each month. I know from my doc, that my chances of a miscarriage or ectopic are higher than that. So...if I do the numbers, I have a 20% chance of conceiving in one year (1 - (.98^12)) and a higher chance of an ectopic. I don't need those stinking odds either!!!
