I think it is a smart move, especially if you don't have children yet but want them. My husband and I have one, and we are coping with the thought of not being able to have another. I couldn't imagine being as young as we are facing a possibility of no kids, you know?

I think it is a great idea. If you don't end up needing it, at least you have a sizable nest egg set aside for the baby when you do get pregnant. Babies are EXPENSIVE and something WILL come up (it always does!)

i think its a good idea. with endo especially if you want kids you have to look towards the future. its best to start saving now so when that moment comes up you can use it. but who's to say you will need it? you may be one of those who will get pregnant naturally or with a cheaper fertility treatment as an IUI, or clomid.

I hope naturally sabby! But I also don't want to find out then have to save for 5 years, especially with the way my endo is. So I thought a head start would be good. If I don't need it, it can go towards the childs needs =)

That's definitely a great idea. Even if you just start a family fund. I am in the process of getting ready to start IVF. Depending on how many rounds you need to undergo it can be very expensive. I know your're not in the US so I am not sure how much coverage insurance companies cover in your country. In the US most states have laws mandating some type of coverage but there are loop holes. If the company you work for is non-profit or medical they do not have to offer. I am a nurse by profession so pretty much all of my past employers did not offer any coverage, but luckily I switched jobs last year after relocating to a new state and they do offer 50 % coverage for IVF. It can cost anywhere from 5-10,000 dollars per round and I have seen alot of women spend on average 20-30,000. I did save for this and even though I have the money I don't want to spend it all on IVF treatments if I did'nt have to, so finding a job with good benefits was the most important factor for me.
Hopefully, when you are ready though you will have no problems, and it doesn't hurt to have a nice amount of savings anyway for all those unexpected things that come up.

I think that's a great idea to start saving as soon as you can, when it comes to something as important as having a child I don't think u can ever be over prepared, and like Emily mentioned you could always call it a family fund. So maybe it will be used for ivf, maybe you will have a child naturally and be able to use it for child expenses or turn it into a college fund for them. Not to be a downer but there is always a possibility that anyone of us will not be able to physically have a child and if that happens you could always use it for adoption if that is something that would interest you. When I first got really sick with endometriosis my aunt and uncle started what they are calling "a baby mama fund" for my fiance and me, they said it is our choice what we do with it but they seems pro surrogate route for me being other health problems. My fiance and I have not even really started talking about what we will do if we cannot do it naturally but it is really nice to have some money set aside if we ever do come to needing it

It's nice to have that backup thats for sure..I think here is costs about 5-7000 and you can get back about 50-60% depends on different things.

Even if you can't get preggers naturally, there are many many children that need adopted out there that would love to have a good mother and father, and you seem like you'd be a great mom. Sadly, adoption costs almost as much, if not more depending on circumstances. My point was, you don't HAVE to get pregnant to be a mom. Sometimes, I wish I had been adopted (I love my mom, but my dad's a real jackwagon). I would sometimes have dreams he wasn't my real father. Haha.

If you insist upon getting pregnant and having your own child through IVF, then its a good idea. I still support the idea of adoption myself. I've seen too many kids and babies without homes on the news and in the papers lately that it almost makes me cry. No child should ever feel unwanted.

I work at a homeless shelter, and see it EVERY DAY. I watch moms just give up their kids to CPS, or give up on ther kids and have them taken by CPS. It makes me sad.

My husband and I want to try for one more of ours eventually, but we have always planned to adopt two (possibly siblings even). I come from a broken home and feel like any child can be saved, you know? It just takes a lot of time, money, and dedication. Wanting to be a lawyer, I am hoping we can afford that some day. :)

Schala you are so right! and we've spoken of adoptions...sadly adopting in Australia is next to 0 ...around 4-6 children go up for adoption each year and there are apparantly hundreds of parents waiting. So, overseas adoption is what we have to do here, and that costs $10,000+.

My friend was adopted from overseas, she said the grand total for her adoption was around $50,000-$60,000!
It's deffinately something we'd look into if we could ever afford it, or even if we could afford the loan! So mant decisions to make someday!
