Hi ladies,
I've been thinking about this lately...
I see alot of you women are told to have a hyster and some women are quite young when they have it. Most of you are in America...and coming from Australia I think things are different here. But I'm wondering why.
I know girlscandrum has had one @ 23 and I saw on another post Sabby was schedualed for the surgery @ 19 but didn't do it for personal reasons. I completely understand it's an individualised choice and I'm neither for or against it. I'm a fence sitter! I think everyone needs to make their own personal decision.

Anyway...I guess it's more in my mind since my doc appt. When he said he thinks I have adenmyosis too. Also noting it's only cure is a hystrectomy (he did not say it could cure my endo). He followed with "No one in Australia will do a hystrectomy on a 20 year old, not for this and I'm not going to either". I know of another woman who goes there, she is actually who got me to go there...he told her she does need one..her endo and adenyo is so bad..every 12 months she goes back to being like a 45 yr old untreated endo patient! - so he is waiting untill she's tried (well attempted) to have her children and I am assuming older.

They also drum into us "a hyster wont cure endo" sort of...like telling us it wont help at all, regardless. This is the impression I get.

So I wonder why you ladies are so easily resorted to a hyster by your doctors? When our doctors do everything to stay far away from it.

I'm just curious is all :) hopefully you can give me some insight!!

Hey dolly! . Before I knew I had endo, when I was WAY younger I use to beg for one.... thinking it would take all the pain away but non of my doctors would do it, I believe at one point a doctor told me that he wouldnt do it on anyone younger than 27.

Once I found out that I had Endo, Dr.Blacker and I had a talk about it, seeing that my husband and I wanted children so bad. Bryan and I have been ttc for over 2 years with no luck. But from what Dr.B told me was a bit frighting, she said in her experience that only 20% of women who have a hyster see any results! Most Dr. (like yours) say that it wont help at all.

I am a person that is all about letting my body do what it wants. I dont do well on birth control, I end up throwing up all day and by the end of the day I feel it isn't worth it. I have dealt with the pain for 10 years now... and I will do it again and again....

A hyster in my eyes ( no offense to anyone that has had one) is something that we should not go through, its not natural. I know that some women dont have a choice. But I will strive as long as I can before that ever happens.

Overall I think it depends on the doctor and how sever your endo is and of course personal preference.

I hope I helped, this is just what I think about it... its just not for me.

I feel like my body is rejecting my uterus and girl parts in general .. what I have left of them anyways . I am going to go see 1 more doctor and then make my decision .For me it's how much more of this pain can I take type of deal. I was in the ER today begging for one begging for them to cut me open because I had the most extreme pain of my life and it was from my legs up to my stomach . But I got the same answer from them which was you need to go talk to your family doctor about a hysterectomy. It's a desperate attempt to possibly relieve the pain even if it's for a couple months/years . I don't want to get it done so early in my life but at this point I don't have any other options given to me to make a choice :(

Yeah I am 24 and I was given 2 option for my endometriosis medicine for the rest of my to reduce the pain or hysterectomy wish my Dr absolutely dis agreed as I did as well. I would like kids on my own and having a hysterectomy I want be able to not only that it so many side effect with that my mother had full hysterectomy like 9 years ago and is still experience problem HUGE law suit problem that made me afraid to even think about getting one I think it depend on your Dr and how he/she care about their patient and not into the money business.

I am most likely going to have surgery in the next few months. We have been TTC for 3+ years then just last week found I have no eggs left and my follicle I did have collapsed. I feel it may not get better with surgery but I can hope that it will not get worse.

I don't think I could handle having my period untill menopause...besides the constant daily pain my period pain is 1000X worse! I don't think I could do it untill I naturally stop.

If I do have adenmyosis - it will relieve some pain...as that is purely in the walls of the uterus. The endo though...is and entire other playing field. Hormones arn't my friend is why I say this...if my only option for stopping my period is a hysterectomy...oneday I will do it.

I just find it so amazing it's a such a huge last resort here...one lady I know is going to start searching through the doctors in melbourne untill she finds one that WILL give her the hysterectomy she wants/needs. I mean, it's THAT difficult.
I know there are circumstances they will advise it...but you're already so deeply in a rut.

I guess here it's not so money driven. Our medical expenses are nothing like the US. And Brooke I think you're right - our doctors are frightful of being sued.

My dads neighbor has Adenmyosis and she had her uterus removed and she said the pain is completely gone! But she never had Endometriosis to deal with like you. Im sorry you have to deal with both of these. :(

Tate, this is a very interesting thing you brought up. I often see posts on here where doctors are pushing Lupron and hysterectomies to endo patients. That blows my mind because I had to search and literally beg before any doctor would even think of allowing me to try either of them. The Lupron was a last resort after countless bcp, surgery, even homeopathic "remedies" and EVERYTHING I could possibly try, with the exception of Depo Provera. But before my doc agreed to a hysterectomy, he made me try Depo Provera, and that was the absolutely worst thing I ever did!! So I don't understand where all these doctor are that tell people to have hysterectomies because they sure don't live anywhere close to me!! lol

Tiffany, I'm glad you responded! I just see alot of women on here who are told this...it confused me alot..but I think I'm getting a better understanding of it! :)

I'm glad you're doing well, regardless of what people think (if they are pro or against hysters), it truely makes me happy to know it does help some women! :) I am super glad you are one of them too! :)

I'm glad for the insight from everyone too, it's been an interesting discussion!

My doctor wont do it. Not only because of the fact that it's not guaranteed to get rid of my problems, whether they really are endo or just my shitty luck :-) But also because of my age. I have heard that part of it is because some women sew after they get better and I've just heard that some doctors don't feel right, taking the option away from someone so young to have children. Maybe other doctors in the US would do it but not mine.

My dr would do it...and gave me that option...pretty much said that was the last thing left to do. I'm a little bit older than you guys (34) but still didn't want to do that...bcuz I don't believe for me that it's worth it given that it probably isn't going to help the endo stuff....unless you also get rid of the ovaries. Then you will have to deal with menopausal symptoms ( hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia) which you will only get relief from if you do what? Oh right...take hormones!!! Then you might as well have not gotten the surgery bcuz the estrogen has the potential to make any endo grow and cause issues. I'd be more apt to have the endometrial ablation before I'd do a hysto. I think if someone wants it then that's fine but what bothers me is the drs that tell women that doing that will make them better.
