Hi Alana, I thought the same thing myself for the last two years. I kept telling the doctors I don't care about having children, I can adopt later, I could not handle the pain of uncontrolled periods and pain and nausea. Let alone the pregnancy itself. Screw that! I am no good to anyone in this condition.
I am 33 And they keep saying I was too young! (Ha! yeah right!), but my mother had hers when she was 33 also and her doctor back then had been telling her for a couple of years that she needed one. I think a lot of it has to do with where the medical world is right now. They probably use to perform hysterectomies too often and did not understand the horomonal component. But now we have horomone replacement and can contol a lot of things related (ie bone health etc.)better than ever before. And I think there is a lot of pressure from insurance companies to PROVE that it is needed. They don't care that we are suffering, its just dollars and cents to them.
So, I eneded up going to the doctor about once a month telling them I am still in pain, did Lupron, still in pain, and after 2+ years of this they finally agreed to do my hysterectomy. I am currently on day 12 of my recovery. It is a difficult recovery, but I am looking forward to a better life! Hang in there and just keep pestering the shit out of your doctor if that is what you really feel you need, and make sure you have done your research and homework so you feel prepared to the point that nothing in the process will surprise you. Hey girl glad youre doing well! Can you tell me.more about your surgery? And im concerned about weight gain as well :/ did they do it vaginally or what? Details please! Yeah no kids for me the boy is sterile and im not willing to wreck more havoc on my body ugh

I would not fixate on weight issue so much, but rather focus on weighing the risks and benfits of having such a proceedure. As it is a major surgery. Do you plan to use horomone replacement aferwords? What kind? Are you ready for a sugicaly induced menopause? How would the quality of your life change? What is your current quality of life and is it low enough that it is impacting your ability to do things? -Just some hypothetical questions for you.

For me, my quality of life had deminished greatly and i did not feel well most of the time.I had both ovarian cycts one each ovary and endo. They did a laproscopic assisted hysterectomy, meaning the went in through my belly button and pulled out through my vaginia. I had endo everywhere so I had my cervix, my uterus., and both my ovaries removed and I will be on HRT until I am at a more appropriate age for menopause.

Hope that answers some of you questions. That was kind of the line of thinking that I went through.

Quite Honestly havent thought that out and really only want uterus removed I'm sick of hormonal bcps now I tear every time I have sex after changing to yaz and spotting now too I cant catch a damn break :(

I just want pain free but there doesn't seem to be any easy conclusion to it... But I think my vag is drying out from the bcps which could be why I'm tearing, perhaps lube? But the damn bcps cause so many other problems on top of what I already have. Than (sorry TMI) I have to dilate because of my vulvodynia surgery so I was doing that this morning, and nailed my ovary I almost passed out from the pain. I mean we're not talking huge pressure or anything, more like grazed the spot where it would be, and I almost puked, it was terrible. I'm just sick and tired of all this bull shit- quite honestly, I've been having suicidal thoughts, I'm depressed, the bcp is making it worse. My only saving grace is the pain (for the most part) stays away when my uterus isn't murdering itself once a month. Like how can an organ possibly do this without killing you? And finally, have you ever tried an IUD or do you know anything about it?!

I had my IUD taken out this morning, I can't even describe the instant relief I felt once it was removed. Getting it removed however..that was a bitch. I was literally screaming and crying. I'm not saying stay away from it, I just happened to be one of the small percentage of women whose body flatly rejects the IUD. For some women it works great! I'm not one of them. I need more permanent options, which I've discussed with my gp this morning. I almost started crying when she told me that we're going to get this fixed, and that she will help me find the right doctor to help me.

Good! I'm glad you got the relief, I'm not sure I really want something in me for 5 years it doesn't sound too hygienic. But God I'm just desperate for relief. I know I posted in the other thread but I just passed a clot the size of a quarter now I am nauseous, dizzy and cramping awful...

So I had my two week follow-up today and the pathology report came back and everything was negative for cancer cells! I did however have endo eveywhere, including on my ovaries and my ovaries and fallopian tubes were ' conjested' or in otherwords full of cysts! No wonder I had so much pain! I know for sure now that it was a good thing that I decided to get rid of both ovaries for sure! The pain from the surgery is still no fun but a little better day by day and at least I have a month off work thanks to FMLA and Obama because I no longer can be denyed or disqualified insurance from having a pre-existing condition!

Oh yay congratulations so happy for you! And everything is healing well too? How does hrt work?

They gave me a horomone patch to use, kind of like the birth control patch. I tried the bio-identical HRT but it just kept making me sick.

But how do they know what will work and how much you need

Alana, the IUD did make my blood clots small, very small. For me, it didn't stop my period, I still have it..been 9 weeks, but it made the flow a lot lighter. Lighter than its ever been in my life! Only it brought out my endo symptoms more. Cause I still have pain in the same areas, its just not as intense as it was with the IUD. As I told Mom last night, I never thought I'd be happy to say I'm back to my normal bad pain lol.

Yeah I'm not sure how that's considered good for you because it stays in your uterus I just am not sure I want something in my uterus... I've heard that they hurt really bad too and it just doesn't seem worth the pain, unless they can put it in me while I'm under anesthesia. Which also pisses me off, with men they would be knocked out like a light but with women half the stuff we endure were awake for what BULL SHIT is that?! And when/if you decide to get pregnant they guilt trip you into not taking drugs. Having never been pregnant, I luckily haven't had to deal with that, but fuck you.. stuff going in or out of your vagina hurts. ugh narcissists

Hi Alana! I am 33 years old and I just had a complete hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. I am soooo happy I finally took the plunge and just did it!! I feel amazing! I had been suffering with severe endo for about 15 years. I had 6 previous lap surgeries to remove endo and it just kept coming back. I did want kids but had fertility trouble of course so we ended up doing IVF twice and have 2 beautiful children. My endo did get slightly better immediately after having my kids but it got bad again within 6 months after giving birth. It had gotten so bad the last few years that my quality of life was horrible. I had constant everyday cramping pain, painful intercourse, painful bowel movements, recurring bladder infections, rectal pain/ pressure, constant spotting, and when I got my period the pain was so bad that I usually ended up at the ER. My doc was actually the one trying to convince me to go ahead with the hysterectomy. I was super nervous but finally agreed because I just couldn't handle the pain anymore. I had my hysterectomy done laparoscopically with one incision in the belly button and one on each side of my abdomen. Then they pulled everything out through the vagina. They removed my uterus, both tubes and ovaries, my cervix, I also had 3 sections of my bowels that were glued to my uterus with endo which had to be unattached and my bladder was also glued to my uterus and had to be unattached. They put stints in the tubes that run from my bladder to my kidneys because they were stuck to my kidneys with endo and needed to be unattached. They also removed a golf ball sized mass of endo from between the tissue of the rectal and vaginal wall. It sounds like a lot but surprisingly the recovery is not nearly as bad as I expected! I had morphine the first day in hospital and the pain was totally manageable. The next day the pain was much better and I only needed Advil and Tylenol 3. I only had one night in the hospital and went home the next day. I was pretty sore the first week, but not too bad. I am on week four of recovery now and I feel great!! I feel like I could run a marathon...even though the doc says no exercise for 6-8 weeks. LOL! I have been taking Premarin (HRT) and so far have had no side effects. I feel totally normal...... Except pain free!! Yippee!! So I know a hysterectomy is not a decision to take lightly, but it was definitely the right decision for me! I would say do your research and weigh all your options and decide what's best for you and then find a doctor who will support your decision. Good luck!! :-)

Oh it hurt...a lot. Hurt getting it inserted and hurt getting it out. Almost think the getting out was worse because I knew what I was going to be feeling.

Men are wusses lol. Seriously, when they get sick, it's like the world is ending. When we get sick, we do what we have to and move on.
