Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
As for the birth control, do you still have a period every month? One thing they might recommend if you aren't already doing this is to get on an extended birth control so you only have your period 4 times a year, or perhaps even less. A lot of women have success with this method reducing their symptoms. Don't do it yourself without seeing a doctor first though because there are particular types that are better for treating endo and you might not be on one of them currently.
The best thing is to follow up with a gynecologist ASAP to get things under control. Sorry that's not more helpful!
In the meantime heating pads (you can get the stick on kind for at school too) might help comfort you. I find anti-inflammatories like advil (ibuprofen) and aleve (naproxem) to take the edge off slightly better than other over the counter products.
The very good news for you, (if you have endo) is if you can get diagnosed at such an early age, and treat it, you have a GREAT chance at successfully treating endo; better chance of getting pregnant (when you're much older, and ready), and having less pain and complications from endo! So early diagnosis they've found is the best chance you have! Which is amazing news for you!
Like I said, id encourage you to see an endo specialist; an endo specialist will excise the endometriosis (cut it with a special scissor), and a regular OB/GYN will burn it or laser it. The excision method is much, much better and much more effective. Either way, please push to get diagnosed!
I so much encourage you to follow up with a really good OB/GYN. And if you can, check out the list of endo specialists. And if you need help finding a good dr. in your area, we all have a TON of experience and can help you out! So, please find a good Dr., get a Laparoscopy (dont just pick a random OB/GYN), get diagnosed, if you have endo they'll remove it. After your surgery, they'll likely put you on BC pills to slow down future growth. You should respond very well, and feel so much better!
It took them 11 years to diagnose me (and I suffered and knew I had endo the entire time), and I did everything i could, and i had to do it alone. I guess if someone helped me, id have been better off and taken seriously by Dr's. But now im 31, and i wasnt treated/diagnosed till i was 27! And unfortunately by then it was too late, and had spread everywhere. The reason i tell you this is because i want you to understand how important it is to get diagnosed and treated now. And a lot of women on this forum have very similar stories, in that they too were diagnosed after years and years and suffered a long time without help. So im happy you seem proactive in finding out if you have endo:)
I wish you luck, and if you have any questions, we're all here for you! Heres the link for endo specialists;
