Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
About the Rx, it is a type of progestrin hormone birth control. Here is a link with info on it: http://health.yahoo.com/birthcontrol-medications/norethindrone/healthwise--d00555a1.html
Hopefully this will help with your pain until you can find a specialist. Progestrin based birth control seem to have a higher success rate in controlling pain in endo patients. You may have some typical side effects such as irregular periods, headaches, mood swings, etc. Not anything out of the norm. I'm currently on Mirena which is a progestrin IUD birth control and so far it hasn't helped but it can take a couple of months to "kick in". One of the side effects for me that can get pretty bothersome is nausea. I was told this happens because my body thinks it's pregnant so I actually experience "morning sickness" LOL!!! I keep it under control with an arsenal of ginger gum, ginger tea, Altoids, ( natural peppermint oil ) vitamin B6, and the occasional ginger ale.
Anyway, hope this helps. Take care and good luck! Let us know how things go with you new Rx!
I agree- SO SO SO glad he admitted it to me and was honest that he just doesn't know!
I just wanted to chime in and let you know that it's normal for your first period after your lap to be really painful. My first couple periods after my lap were excruciating. All I did was cry in bed for days. I also had stabbing pain for several months after my lap, but it did gradually get better. My lap was actually a year ago today and I'm in a much better place than I was a year ago. I still have pain pretty much every day, but it's tolerable and I can function. I'm always nervous it's going to get worse or I'll have a bad moment and cause a scene in public (do any of you ladies worry about that?), but for now I'm doing ok.
I just wanted to give you hope. It could still get much better!
Good luck!
