Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Glad to hear everything went well. When I had my surgery it hurt like crazy to pee. I remember actually holding it probably for longer than I should have because I didn't want to go haha. But my doctor said it was totally normal for it to hurt when you pee.
Drink lots of water :)
My abdomen is kind of tight which I figure is meaning that it's healing. Today I get to take a shower which I can't wait for, I'm thinking that will make me feel way better too.
I actually just had a lap too and thought I was pass along some interesting info my fiance told me... The 2nd or 3rd day after surgery is actually where you should feel the worst.
My fiance is a medical student and just completed his surgical rotation, so that is where he learned this... I have never been told this by a surgeon before, but after he explained it makes complete sense. First of all, your anesthesia takes a couple of days to leave the body. Also, it takes a while for you body to mount an inflammatory response to initiate the healing process. A lot of the pain, fatigue, and general ill feeling comes from your inflammatory response. (If you really want me to explain it more, I could but this is the basic idea behind it). Thus, you won't feel as bad on the first day as you will on the second or third, and then you will gradually feel better as you heal.
I just thought this was interesting and hope it makes you feel like you aren't crazy if you happen to feel terrible on the third day. I also agree not to push yourself. I did, and my incision opened a little and bled. I just was getting pressure from my family to do things. My mom got upset that I did not go to the family thanksgiving b/c I didn't feel well, and it was less than 48 hrs after surgery. I just didn't want to sit in the car, nor have to be in an upright position. Does anyone else have a family that feels that they should just bounce back after procedures?
I made sure that whenever I neeeded to 'be under' or get general anesthesia, I tell them to be careful in intubating me and extubating me so they won't damage my cords further. I haven't had that problem since.
The excessive peeing is likely due to foley irritation. It's typical but should go away within a few days. If you have a fever, abdominal pain, or changes in your urine you should go to the emergency room.
bryn - I have the same problems with a majority of my family members including my father and siblings. In my preparation for my last surgery for endo, I traveled all the way to Oregon. Well my family acted like I was going all the way there to get my toe nails clipped. It was always about them. Grant it I'm grateful my sister went with me, but she complained the whole time and was so unsupportive the whole trip. She was the only one who can go at that time and she got a free trip to Bend, Oregon.
But, I had to learn that I'm more important! So, put yourself first and ignore their comments. They don't understand what we go through and have to put up with.
