Hi there! I had my first lap in July of this year. I had my husband with me because it is required someone arrive and stay with you because you cant drive afterwards. The doctor came and spoke to my husband after the surgery and told him what he saw(endo in 5 places and removed it), and asked that I come back for a follow up in 5 days. You are right you will not remember what the doctor says, so bring someone with you that you trust. Expect for your shoulders to hurt afterwards, and for me I had trouble urinating after surgery so I got a UTI from that. I only took 4 days off of work after surgery, but I should of taken longer. Do so if you are able to. I am pretty stubborn and no matter who you are surgery wipes you out. You will probably be on pain pills for a few days after the surgery, so you will probably do nothing but sleep because of those. Let me know if you have anymore questions! My doctor wants to perform another lap on me soon, and I told him NO! I told him if I really need it then I can do it in a few months. Get educated on what your options are cause they might throw all sorts of stuff at you. And remember it is your body, so you can say NO!!!!

they wont tell you what they found at surgery, they will tell your spouse, but mostly talk about it at 2 wk post op. I ve had numerous laps, dont be scared, you will hurt for a week or two. Hope it helps!

The nurse told me a few things as I was waking up...and I remember what she said. I just had my 2nd lap on Nov 19...and it was MUCH easier this time. The first time I had a lot of shoulder pain (from the gas)...I don't know how or why this works but take something like gas-x very regularly....it really helped me the first time. I coudl actually feel the gas bubbles popping..that was weird! Plan to sleep sitting up for several nights (like in a recliner!). The first time I had to do this for almost 10 days. This time I was able to get in my bed the third night. i still slept propped up for a couple more nights then was able to lay flat by maybe a week after. TAKE the pain pills. Even if you don't think the pain is that bad...it will likely get bad the more you move around. By day three this time I was taking vicodin maybe once every 8 hours. I am a nanny and my job is very physically demanding so I took a week and a half off work....I was fine when I went back...though did still have a little pain in my belly button area when lifting kids. But I did get really tired pretty easily!! Still for about two weeks after going back to work. Well...it was 6 weeks ago today that I had my lap...and I am 100%. Good luck!

I have had two and had little problems with them... my husband couldn't ever remember what they said to him so i found out almost all my info at the follow up appt....
As far as the pain I took the meds given and was fine.. I didn't have the gas pain everyone talks about except maybe a little... so I guess I was lucky... No worries though... After the second it relieved so much pain the pain from the surgery was nothing... =)

First off i just wanted to say good luck with your surgery I know it will all go good. i had my surgery Nov. of last year and I agree with kungfukitty make sure you take someone with you so they can tell you what the Dr. said afterward because you will not remember anything at all. And with my Surgery I wasn't told how bad it was until a week later at my follow up appt. I know that my Dr. told my husband what he had done as far as surgery goes but other than that he wont tell you how bad it is or anything like that until your appt. And you might want someone to help you up from the couch or bed once you get home because you will be very very sore and you will want to be careful getting up and down for a couple days. Hello! I actually just had my first lap yesterday (12/30), and was woken up in recovery by my doctor who apparently talked to me briefly about what had happened in my surgery--- all I remember, though, is her telling me that I do in fact have endo, that it's not too severe, and that she has pictures of my surgery that I can choose to look at in my post op. When she called my mother to pick me up she also told her that she had excised some endo and a cyst (though my mum doesn't know the "endo lingo" and didnt quite understand what she said about the cyst-- I imagine that she said it was a chocolate cyst)

Basically, I don't remember the details of what my doctor said, and I don't have my post-op until February 20th. I will say, however, that I was extremely relieved to finally have a diagnosis as well as a surgeon who will do excision.

After my sugery I too had to wait for the results. My husband wasn't very attentive after the Docotor told him that I was just fine. That was all my husband was concerned about, that I was recovering and would be going home. LOL, anyway during recovery the "bubble of gas" that is left will rise to the highest point and could cause some discomfort. Simply move so that the sorest point is lower than the rest of you. If your right sholder hurts roll onto your right sholder so that your left sholder is higher. The bubble will go away in a couple of days if you do infact have one. The pain pills will help with other discomfort. If you can have a couple of meals ready to go so that your husband can warm them up to help out if he isn't a chef. Just some thoughts that helped me thru mine. Good luck and glad to see you found this group...it's wonderful.

Hmmm...maybe I'm just lucky, having my attentive doctor. I honestly can't remember how it was with my first lap (the one that discovered endo) but on this one, the doc waited a lil bit before coming into the recovery room so I was able to understand all that he did (he ended up taking out my appendix and had to remove scarring from my intestines). He also gave my husband copies of the surgical pics so I could go back and look at them later.

Whichever way that it works out, good luck. Remember that if he does find something, at least you will know what is causing your pain and you can start to do something about it. :-)

I didn't read the other replies.... but!

The doctor took pictures and showed them to me immediately when I woke up after surgery as well as my mother ( I wasn't married at the time) then went back over them with me for my follow up....

The pain from the gasses after the surgery is pretty bad and they definitely didn't tell me about that...

and if you think about it..... Whether they find some that is wrong with your or not isn't the point BECAUSE

if they don't find it you will still have it except it will get a lot worse

so have the surgery so you can find out and be treated if something IS wrong
