Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Is anyone taking Femara? I'm looking at that as another treatment option.
Due to my income, no insurance etc. The progestin pill that I was on I can no longer get because my state aided RX plan will no longer cover it and to get it out of pocket is over 100 per month and thats way too expensive and out of my price range.
I was switched to one that they would cover and have been on it for a little over 3 weeks now and I hate this one. It doesn't work at all. The first week I was on it I had a really bad period (heavy bleeding, very painful) and it lasted for 8 days. Since then up till now I feel horrible! My daily pain is back, I'm having issues eating again, as well as constipation probs, my lower back is in pain daily as well and honestly in the past few days it feels like I"m about ready to have another bad period. I'm showing all my usual pms signs.
Called my nurse and told her the situ and she argued with me that its the exact same meds just a different brand so she doesn't understand why this one isn't working. Which irritates me because of copy write and patent laws they can't all be made the same, chemically they are all a different make up. So that is why the last one worked and this one does not.
Anyway with that aside and this current progestin pill that I'm on is the only thing covered by insurance I don't know what else to do. I did have breast cancer so my options for using other hormone treatments are very limited as they don't know if other hormone treatments could cause my cancer to return.
I've read about Femara on my breast cancer boards and it is used with breast cancer treatment so I think it could be o.k. to use and won't interfere and have read that it has given women some good results with endo treatment.
What do you think?

Could you perhaps bring the Femara up to your doc? I would think that if many women on the boards have used it, that it should be safe.
I personally had horrible side effects with Femara and it only added to my endo pain. I had severe bone & joint pain, vertigo, foot problems, heart issues, and really scary vision problems. I collapsed one day and couldn't stand back up so my family brought me to the ER. That was when I chucked the Femara pills and fired my doctor.
BUT I had a really, really irresponsible doctor that prescribed Femara. He did not monitor me on it, even though he was supposed to. He had also told me it was safe to take Femara even with my elevated bilirubin (I have Gilbert's syndrome), but I found out it was never tested on people with elevated bilirubin, and the med comes (at least now) with a warning that concerns the liver.
So maybe with a responsible doctor I would've had a better experience. But I'm not sure. For me Femara was a huge mistake I'm still paying for. As I mentioned in other posts I got uterine polyps from taking Femara. Femara lists multiple cancers, including uterine cancer on their warning label.
This was just my experience with Femara, and I'm sure it's different for everyone.
I'd say just do your research and come to the best decision you can. I was rushed into things, and only did basic research. Now there's more info out on Femara.
