Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
Hi! I am 23 and I have had diagnosed Endo since about 2012- but been treated for it since about 2011, since I was 18, and I think had it since starting menstruating at 11 years old. I started with birth control, then moved to an IUD (no periods!) (Mirena) and a laparoscopy in December 2013, which helped greatly (I want to say I was Stage 3?). Adhesions returned, of course, and I had a robotic surgery in April of this year, so about 5 months ago, and retained the IUD.
Until two months ago, I was a virgin and so I hadn't had to address any sexual concerns other than dealing with emotions regarding infertility, etc. When I became sexually active, it was okay for about the first month, but I immediately contraced 2 UTI's, which I treated ASAP (also got tested and everything was clean). The past month (having sex 1-2x/wk) I have started having pain after intercourse, and it doesn't help that my partner and I are into going fast and hard, or that he's nearly 9".
I went to Urgent Care today because I was convinced I had another UTI but the doctor told me no, but that he expects I have dysmenorrhea from what I told him (wasn't a great experience, felt very talked down to - unlike with my OBGYN - and basically felt like a child when asking questions because I am still so new to sex). He told me to wait to have sex for a week, to always use condoms (we have not been and are monogamous), and that I can only have slow sex.
REALLY? Is this what the rest of my life will be like? I enjoy sex and have a very high sex drive even though I have been unable to orgasm (chalking it up to endo/antidepressants) and want to hear some tips from others or perhaps natural ways around this. I would like to be able to have a normal sex life and go at whatever speed I wish. I follow a fairly unprocessed diet but am considering going wheat-free...
Been reading The Hormone Cure by Sara Gottfried and it seems to have some helpful ideas - wondering if i have a progesterone/estrogen imbalance. I am willing to do what I need to do to make sex an easier experience for me because I feel myself drawing away from him because it's depressing me now. Whether that's medication, diet changes, exercies, hormone therapy, etc.
Anyone have any tips or experience? The Urgent Care doc brought up a hysterectomy, of course, but I am 23 and not ready to make any decision like that. I had to call my brother and have a good cry because I felt so confused after the appointment.
