Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
My mom (a retired nurse) and I were talking about ways to raise awareness for endometriosis. She came up with the brilliant of idea of writing an email to her old nursing school and offering to come in and speak with students about the importance of endometriosis awareness.
And then I thought maybe I should write to the new head of the GYN department at my college and make a similar offer. Three GYNs I went to graduated from UB (Suny @ Buffalo) and they knew nothing of a common gynecological disease like endometriosis. All three of them told me these would absolutely CURE endometriosis:
Having a baby (bullshit)
hysterectomy (bullshit)
Birth Control pills (and more bullshit)
They also told me endometriosis was just period cramps and that women should suck it up (as you can guess they were male doctors).
WTF? Really? In 2012. This is sad. This is infuriating.
So I'm going to write to the head the GYN department, tell her of my experience, and ask if she'd let me come in and talk to the students, or at least let me hand out some yellow ribbons and brochures on endo awareness. I'm really hoping I can come in and talk.
I say cut these bullshit myths off before these students graduate and spread the same kind of crap we've all had to put up with. I'm sick and tired of being prescribed "create and birth a baby" for endo.
What do you guys think? I'm not exactly sure what to write in my letter. I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

Yeah, I'm not really sure how to start either. I guess we'll just learn through experience. I'm contacting some of my out of state friends and seeing if they'll also contact their local nursing/med schools so we can kind of coordinate something.
I'm determined to do something this March. I really liked the "Flash of Yellow" awareness campaign in London http://kayesedgwick.blogspot.com/2012/09/flash-of-yellow_3.html I thought it was a cute idea and very inspiring.
