continuous bc pill...breakthrough bleeding

Sorry about all the questions, but this is all so new to me! My dr put me on continuous birth control pills with the instructions that if I have any breakthrough bleeding I should take 2 pills in one day for five days. Well...I have breakthrough bleeding now!

Has anyone done this? It kind of freaks me out. I feel like that is a lot of hormones. Just wanted to know if this was the norm...

I just started on continuous, and the information warned me I might have breakthrough bleeding. I'm having a small amount but haven't heard anything until your post about doubling. I though you were just supposed to keep taking the normal dosage and be patient while your body adjusts. Call your doctor and confirm his/her advice. If you don't like the answer, get a 2nd opinion from another doctor! Take care.

Very interesting that s/he recommended to take 2 at once for 5 days. Up until last month, I was also on it continuously, with instructions that if I had breakthrough bleeding for more than a few days, that I should stop taking the BC for 5-7 days to take a break and have a period.

After having breakthrough bleeding every single month, we agreed that I should just be taking it normally. I don't think my body knew what to do with the continuous dose of hormones.

And just so you know, breakthrough bleeding is very common in the first three months of starting continuous birth control. I really wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have a reason to (if there's a lot of it, if it's red (fresh) blood and not brown (old) blood, or if your body tells you to be worried) :-)
