Hi guys,
I was hoping maybe you could all help me with something because I'm beating myself up about it when I can't change it now, but I can ask your advice.

Firstly, please can noone shout at me! I know I was stupid and irresponsible but you are prob the only people who'll understand.

So, I had my first lap May '08. I bled afterwards for 4 weeks and 6 days. Into the beginning of the second week I was still bleeing heavily. I rang the hospital and spoke to the ward matron who remembered me and told me if it hadn't stopped at the end of week 2, I would have to go back into hospital.

I know it was irresponsible but I don't even know how to begin with how many times I've been in hosp, had horrendous experiences etc, but thats why I'm hoping you'll all understand. SO, I didn't go back in and I continued to bleed for 4 weeks and 6 days. I've bled for over 3 weeks whilst on my period sometimes, so it didn't feel unusual if you know what I mean. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. I'm also now in a lot more pain than I was before the lap and I'm so scared that I could have caused all this myself with my own stupidity. I was so so tired of the hospital though.

Please could any of you tell me how long you bled after any of your laps?
And if you bled as long as I did, was there a reason for this?
Any advice would be much appreciated because I have absolutely nobody to ask. It doesn't work like that in the uk, I don't even have a gynae doc I don't think. Our NHS healthcare is terrible when it comes to issues such as this!

So please ignore my stupidity and any help would be great. Thanks guys

Two weeks ago I had a laparoscopy, D&C & hysteroscopy. I quit bleeding after the first week. They warned me heavily against any heavy or long-term bleeding. I know in the UK it takes forever to get back in to see a doctor but you need to start trying to get in now.

Just learn from it and get yourself better. Ignoring the problem won't make it go away!

I had my lap done in December and had my period until about January 5th. Then I had a break and have had my period since January 20th... so I kind of know what you are going through. I have been having a hard time finding a gynecologist though :(

I had laparotomy last Fri and I'm still bleeding 5 days later. The strange part is that it seems to have increased over the past few days, not decreased as they said it would. I'm supposed to wait out the week.. should stop by then they say.

Definitely get it checked out as soon as possible!

I would not for a minute think of shouting at you!
I quit bleeding after a week post op,
I live in the UK too, and can understand your anxiety.
Do you have a good relationship with your GP, that might be a good place to start.
If you have any major issues with the care you are receiving with the NHS you can use the PALS service, they are there to ensure you get the best possible treatment.
Please see someone as soon as you can

Thank you guys all so much for your replies. And I've taken them all on board. It's touching that people care, if it wasn't for this site and you ladies past few months, I wouldn't know where to turn as only us women who have it, understand it.

I just had a laproscopy and hysteroscopy on 2-13-09. I bled for about a week, had a break for a day and started bleeding again for another 10 days. I was also close to starting my cycle so the second time bleeding was just a longer period. After that I had a f/u appt with my MD and everything was fine. I am now bleeding, started today, again which is just an early period which once can happen. If it does not stop however you should call your MD. Also look for other symptoms, if you are losing too much blood you can develop lightheadness, fatigue, shakiness. If this occurs defintely get checked out right away! Good luck to you

I had my lap and hysteroscopy in jan 09. It was close to the end of my cycle, so I spotted for a week after and then went straight into my period, which lasted for another 7or so days. My period was lighter though, but lasted longer than normal. And I never really got the red blood, it was more the brown, old blood the whole time. And fairly light.

One possibility if you are in more pain than you were before your surgery you could have adhesions. They can be very painful. I had surgery in October of 2007 and my pain got worse so I had surgery again 10 months later. I was full of adhesions. Just a thought. Stop blaming yourself dear! Also, I bled 4 weeks after a procedure once and the doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal despite me calling every few days freaking out!

Uhh i think that i bleed for.. abouttt 4 weeks? I had horrrrible periods before anyways but a lot of times when they go in for the lap, they burn a lot of the endo that they find and that can be why. It was very clotted and painful.

I was told not to use tampons AT ALL. It just was a no no.I dont blame you for not wanting to go back but just listen to what your body is tellin you and dont ignore what you feel!

im in the exact same boat as you!! I had my laparoscopy on the 16th of april 2 weeks on Wednesday and im still bleeding and I haven't a clue what too do :(
