I was just wondering if anyone has any good luck with the birth control pills? That is my next route of attack after the lupron wears off.

My doc is thinking the Mirena or a low dose pill. Right now I"m leaning towards the pill as I've had so much done medically over the last 10 years I don't want anymore medical procedures and my body hasn't done well with foreign objects.

Its funny, but I was on birth control for a good 10 years for bad/heavy periods and then for what ever reason I stopped taking them and about 2-3 years after I stopped taking them I developed breast cancer and now I have a bad case of endo. I keep wondering what would have happened if I had just stayed on the pill. I'm wondering if the all the estrogen went haywire after I stopped taking them and caused all these issues.

I know its a hit or a miss with the pill, and its about 50/50 with it working. Even tho its worked in the past for me. Just wondering if there are other good stories out there?

I am on loestrin and really like it. It doesn't make me nauseous like other pills did. My periods are so much shorter and lighter while on loestrin, I can hardly believe I'm really having a period, except for the whole pain part! I definitely still have endo pain, but actually my cramps aren't as bad as they were before surgery and the pill. (My endo pain is a different pain than cramps...not sure if that's true for everyone.)

Funny you mention the influence the hormones have on your whole body. I know I had endo for years before this, but before I was actually diagnosed I was put on progesterone for uterine polyps. I felt so much better on it, but I had to go off because it was causing irregular bleeding. Within a month of going off of it, what I now know was endo, came in with a vengeance! I think the progesterone was just really keeping it at bay and going off of it whacked my hormones out of control and made my endo angry!

Hello! I have been on the pill for 10 years. I am 37 years old, was diagnosed with my endo at age 26 but had symptoms for many years before. I was put on the pill continual in 2002, I take zovia 1/35 and had really good success with it. During the time from 2002 - 2009 I was taking the pill continual for 4 months, stopping, having a bleed adn then pills again. Then I went off the pill in 2009 to try for a baby. It took about 8 months for my periods to even come back and then after a year of trying and 1 miscarriage, my endo pain was so horrible, I went back on the pill. I tried Low-Ovral and it worked well, very little breakthrough bleeding but it was causing me to hold onto weight despite working out 5x per week and eating very healthy. I called the doctors office and she thought it might have too much progesterone in it causing me to hold onto weight so I went back on the zovia. It's been just over 2 months and I'm good on this one. I'm like a totallly different person on the pill, no endo pain. The pill, for me, has basically given me a life and I plan on staying on the pill which I now take continual with NO breaks ever until I hit menopause.

I am on microgestin. I take it continously and only get a period once a year. I've been on various pills continously for the past 17 years. It helps with my pain... of course it does't eliminate it 100%

I can't help but I wonder if its really good to be on the pill for that long though and if it might be causing other issues...

I have to admit, I have thought the same thing janined22, but what is the alternative? If the pill works for keeping the endo quiet, I don't see any other options for us. I'm willing to risk side effects for a life that is pretty much normal with afew slight hic ups.

hi i have been on the pill on and off for 10 years, i find it helps with my heavy/painful periods but wonder wat long term bad side affects it may have on my body? my doctor also said i should have a mirena fitted, but it scares me to have something put inside me that could cause bad side affects, then you would have to wait to have it removed! hope this helps
