I thought complex was like an endometrioma. Like you said - different type of matter. I thought they remove them if they are super painful or larger than 7 cm. but I am no expert.

If it's complex it's pretty much guaranteed to be an endometrioma, so I'm really surprised the tech said that to you! A complex cyst in someone with endo is almost certainly a chocolate cyst and from what I understand, they only way to get rid of them is through surgery. They may wait until it reaches a certain size or if you're like me, they'll leave it be until it seriously interferes with your quality of life (I've had mine surgically removed twice and both times they were back within weeks). I think it's going to depend a lot on your pain levels and your doctor.

My new doc made a valid point, you can't live your life going in and out of surgery. It's so true. I had my first surgery and within 6 months my cysts were back and almost twice the size. So, so long as it isn't causing any "harm" I am holding off on surgery. I also found that when I started taking progesterone it stopped the growth for me. 2 cm is relatively small, I agree, but you have to think about the size of what it is on. I was told the average size of an ovary is around 2-3cm and the cyst in my ovary is currently 5cm. So yes my cyst in only about 2 inches in size but... almost twice the size of the ovary it is in. Something to think about.

I had a 2cm cyst that appeared to be complex but ended up being an endometrioma. It caused a lot of pain because as another poster said it was taking up what should have been empty space. I had it removed during my 6th lap. If its causing pain it needs to be removed.

@jashley I am in the same boat as you are. My doc said that obviously surgery isn't a good treatment option for me because the cysts just keep coming back! When I'm not ttc I will ask about progesterone, thanks for the info :)

Thanks for all the replies! I am actually on progesterone, so perhaps that is keeping it from growing. When we first found it, I was in a lot of pain and feeling just generally rather sick with nausea and all. Now, I sometimes don't notice it at all. Other times I get achey, and then there are times when I get very sharp, stabbing pains, particularly when I cough or pee! So, since it is causing some pain but I can still function fairly well with it, I don't know what to do. I am seeing a specialist on Friday, so maybe he will have more insight. Of course they wouldn't give me a copy of the results without the dr's approval, so I won't be able to show the specialist a picture of it.

And I totally agree about the size in comparison to the ovary! If I had a blister an inch long, it would hurt. I just don't like it when people tell me something shouldn't hurt and it does. : /

I also had a 2 cm cyst and it caused a lot of pain. The tech also said that it should cause much pain. I just looked at her and said, "Yea well, my crotch and stomach hurts...so yea, it does cause pain..."

The last cyst I had was 6 cm and kept me in the hospital for 4 days. It was pure hell. I wasn't a nice person to be around lol.

I had a 1.5 cm and a 2 cm cyst on my right ovary at the same time...I was in a lot of pain and having lots of cycle issues but was told the same thing as you ladies...they were too small to be causing those issues. Umm....well, I just had that right ovary removed three weeks ago...it was perfectly healthy with the exception of those cysts! (my dr and I were both actually expecting to find endo inside the ovary).
There are actually several different kinds of complex cysts....endometriomas are only one of them.

I had a 2-3 cm endometrioma rupture a week and a half ago. Not fun. That caused a lot of pain not just when it ruptured but in the days afterward when all the blood etc was oozing around my peritoneum causing irritation. It's definitely a size that can cause pain. I'm hoping at least part of my worsenign endo pain the last few months was actually from that cyst and will improve once the cyst rupture finishes healing...no idea how likely that is but I can hope!

Hot chocolate, you should be able to get a copy of whatever records you want since they are yours. Just go physically into the office and get a copy. The doctor cant keep them from you.

I should add that they like to make you think you cant for aome weird reason...but its just not true. They can release records to you and whoever you want you just have to go in there and sign a paper for anyone other than yourself to access a copy.
