Sorry you're heading in for lap number two! But I am glad you found a doctor who listens to you and you feel comfortable with. Personally, I only had 6 months between my first two laps because I didn't do my research and find a good doc the first time around. I'm hoping to avoid #3 altogether.

Anyways, my second lap was by a specialist using the DaVinci. Unfortunately I cannot say my recovery was any easier, although that might be because my second lap was far more extensive than my first (it took about 4 hours and had 4 incisions). I had much greater relief from my second one...or rather had zero relief from my first? Something like that. I think recovery will probably be similar to your last if you're having a similar amount of work done. If you have reason to believe the lap itself will be more extensive you might expect a bit more down time. It's so hard to say, as we all recover differently. I did handle the airport and a short flight 2 weeks post op to visit family, not to say I was pain free at that point and I did have help.

I don't think the recovery from a lap with a davinci is any quicker than the regular way. I've had four laps and my first suggestion is to sleep in a recliner and not a bed for the first week. It's easier to get up from. Use gas x for the gas pain from trapped gas. Take your pain meds on time for the first couple days, even if you don't feel you need them....it is very hard to get back on top of the pain once you let yourself get in pain. Use a hearing pad on your back on ice packs on your tummy (I got these kind of fabric ones from walgreens.).
There was 18 mos between my first and second laps, one year between second and third and three years between 3rd and 4th....My 4th lap was last Nov and I had my right ovary removed at that time.

i just had my 5th lap and it was my first with the davinci robot. Worst pain from a lap as of yet. Not going to sugar coat it. I had 6 incisions when i awoke and I was in the worst pain ever. I did have my own pain pump tho and i got some relief from this surgery. I unfortunately struggle so much with adhesions that i'm about to go back in for (back to back) surgeries. one week apart with the davinci. I am truly grateful to this technology tho as my awesome doctor ( Dr. Dulemba) was able to remove the scar tissue that was bending my ureter in half. (I was in the hospital for 6days in January due to it and was in critical care in kidney failure from it.) So, without the davinci it probably still wouldn't be resolved. I'm so grateful for this new technology that is literally saving lives. ( including mine!) My ultimate advise tho is to definitely take gas-x with you, talk about post op pain and how its going to be managed with your doctor prior to surgery and to try to remain positive.
