The only hormone that can cause a positive on a home pregnancy test is HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). There are some medications (and rare forms of cancer) that can cause a false positive, but progestin is not one of them. If you get a positive hpt at any point, it's 99.9% likely that you're pregnant.

the progestin pill is also a form of birth control so if you are taking it at the same time every day it is very unlikely you would get pregnant.

@MrsColf-I'm not sexually active right now, but that is the odd thing about my pill is all of my doctors keep telling me that since I'm on a low dose of the Nora B I still need protection anyway as where I'm just using it for endo there is still a strong possibility for me to get preggers while on it. So they have been very adamant about me using another form of bc such as condoms, spermicide etc for extra protection.

However when I first went on it I did some research about it endo wise and my dosage etc. It says the same thing your telling me, that as long as I take it the same time everyday, etc my chances of getting prego are like 5% from using it. Plus my other factors like endo etc. So now I don't know what to think about that.

I test regularly once a month because I skip my periods.

maybe the dose they have you on is too low to offer protection against pregnancy?

Because of my clotting disorder, I was on the progestin-only pill for birth control after we had my first son. It took us 2 years, a miscarriage, and fertility meds for both dh and me before we finally conceived our first. So we figured we'd be safe enough using the progestin-only pill for BC afterwards. 15 months later, we got pregnant (surprise!) with our second son, lol. The same exact thing happened to one of the boys' teachers AND our good friends this year. Not to mention it happened to my SIL a year after it happened to us. I don't have much faith in the progestin-only pill. :-)

wow that's a lot of surprises! My husband is quite happy I got the tubal during my lap even tho I need to stay on the norethindrone. I can't say that I would have been unhappy if I unexpectedly got pregnant, in fact I would have been somewhat thrilled. He definitely would not have been. It took me awhile to decide whether to do it or not, but after much thought and prayer I felt at peace with the decision and so far don't regret it. My kids are getting older and we just bought a house half the size of the one we currently live in so another child just wasn't in the plan.

So the doc did call me back because I called to ask her about this. She said that progestin only pills do not work the same as a regular bc pill as it doesn't have estrogen or other components to completely shut down the ovary and said that even if you miss one pill by 2-3 hours you can ovulate. So she said that if you forget a pill even if its by 3 hours you need to use another form of bc for up to 3 days to prevent a pregnancy. So that's why they keep telling me that even on this pill I need to make sure that I have a back up method.

Yes timing is very important. Before my tubal I set the alarm on my phone for 9am and 9pm to take it at the same time every day (I have to take two per day and decided with dr approval to take it in two doses to maintain levels. she said I can do it that way or two pills once per day). It has helped me immensely to remember to take it and I can't begin to tell you how many times I wouldn't have done it on time if I didn't use the alarm. I actually still do it this way because I feel like it's better to keep my levels steady.
