Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.
I'm suppose to be having a hysterectomy and while they want to do it laparoscopically they fear when they get in there it will look a lot like a war zone and will need to be opened up for it. Does anyone know if they have to open me up what the length of a typical hospital stay is like for that type of hysterectomy. Thank you.
I do not know the answer to your questions. I did have a conversation about it this week with my gynecologist. Right now personally i"m 50/50 about having mine out as well, so we really didn't get into the surgery portion just the pros and cons of keeping/getting the hysterectomy.
He did say lap for me as well if I decided to, but if he had to do the tummy way it would leave a scar about the size of a c-section and be in the same location and would require a 24 hour hospital stay. I know someone who did it lap wise and she said it took about a full week for recovery. But it got better everyday.

I had a laparotomy done exactly a year ago as my obgym could not see my uterus (or anything) on the ultra sound she said it was quite a mess. Anyhoo, I have a scar running across my bikini line, a c-section scar and I stayed 3 days in hospital, my doc wanted me to stay there for that period. It was really tough moving around so i appreciated that stay in hospital then 2wks post op at home but my friend i know was off 6wks from work - she had a hysterectomy done.

Each doctor and scenario will be different. If your doctor is good, he/she will have a conversation with you throughout the days after the procedure to see what you feel like is possible.
Are you going to an OB/GYN? Ever considered a second opinion or another doctor? I had my last laperoscopy done by an ovarian cancer surgeon and he was AMAZING. So much better than an OB/GYN!!!
Just a thought - could help with the overall success of the surgery and the recovery time.
