The length of surgery will depend on how significant things are. Mine lasted about an hour and a half from start to finish. It took me an extra hour in recovery because they gave me medication that I was apparently allergic too because I was itching like crazy and then they had to give me benedryl to counteract that.

I wasn't sick or puking, but I was definitely sore. I didn't feel 100% for at least 5 days. I was functioning after 2.

Overall, the surgery isn't too bad and it results in answers which is definitely a relief.

I have had 4 of these procedures and each one was a little different. Usually the procedure lasts about 1 to 2 hours depending on the severity of what they find. Generally you will go home the same day. Have you ever been under anesthesia? That is what will cause nausea and/or vomiting after the procedure. It really depends on your sensitivity to the anesthesia medicine. A week for full recovery is about accurate. You will improve daily and it won't take long to feel back to normal. The worst part of the procedure, to me, is the gas. They will put gas inside during the procedure and while they do try to expel as much as possible you will still feel very bloated and some of the gas will rise up to your chest and shoulders and that can be very painful. No one told me about that and I was unprepared so I want you to have that expectation going in and don't be scared if you feel that pain. The best thing you can do to get rid of it is to move around, even though you won't feel like you want to - it really does help. Well when I had my laporoscopy, it was outpatient. It took 1 hr. Surgery went good, but I had bad pains afterwards. They pump you full of air, and all of the air went into my chest instead of me passing it. Therefore I had bad chest pains, thought I was having a heart attack and couldn't breath. If this happens just make sure you have a paper back and some gas-ex at hand to get rid of the gas if it doesn't excape. It was really scary for me. I just want you to be prepared. I didn't get sick when I woke up, I was just in pain. I was back to work the next day though. My dr. told me to take a week off, but I was unable to. I was ok though. I was still cramping alot, I took my heating pad to work. I never got any releif from the surgery. Hope this is helpful. I don't mean to scare you, I just want you to be prepared for anything because I wasn't.

everyone gets scared and anxious before surgery...that's pretty normal..OMG, for once, we are normal...LOL...just take it easy after surgery and get lots of rest...

I had sugery 11 months ago and am going for a second one in three weeks. I will tell you that it is normal to be a little scared. Even with one under my belt, I am still nervous. My surgery lasted about 1 1/2 hours and my recovery time was about 6 days at home. Just remember to relax as much as possible because it WILL be ok. Once the surgery is done, rest as much as you feel you need to. Enjoy sitting on the couch and watching some bad day time TV.

I had a lap done a few months ago and am having another next week. I get real sick from the anesthesia. You can ask the doctor to put something in your iv to prevent nausea just in case. I have had quite a few surgeries over the years. It works and I am always worried I will forget to tell them. I was able to go home but that evening I did not pass the gas properly and it went up into my shoulder. It was the worst pain I ever felt. Had to go to the er and they gave me something strong for the pain and kept me overnight. The next day I was much better. Had the cramping for a few days but nothing unbarable. Try not to be scared. They can also give you something to relax you prior to the surgery. Best of luck to you!

Length depends on how much they find and what they can or can't do on the spot. For me it was day surgery in and out, I think I went in a 6am and was home by 12pm. I rested for a few days, pain was not much (and I'm a wimp)I was back to work in 4 days, a little uncomfortable, the incisions are right where undies and pants lie or crease which is annoying and itchy. Overall, not as bad as I feared and to know and be able to come up with a plan of attack was worth it!
Good luck, go out and buy yourself so comfy, lose, loungy clothes that's what I did! A little present to myself in anticipation of my bravery!
