Yeah I think that is common if you are working thru the week, that is my concern is that I work full time during the week and have weekends off, weekends can be a lonely time for a lot of people.

I don't know what this will all be like...my concern if that a month from now I will still be in this depressed funk....right now I hate the fact that my brain is non stop. I can hardly sleep at night..I wakeup at least 5 timesthru the night and first thing I think of is son leaving.

Today at work I mentioned it to two people and I started to get teary eyed, I hate crying at work!!!!!!

I am sorry. I can't even really talk about it. And if so to who. And while I am at it figure I will just bash my marriage in the process. Sorry I didn't see this message. I wish I could get notifications without logging in to the site.

I think the main thing is just to keep busy if you can. Yeah I think it is common that marriages that maybe weren't great all along will only get worse when empty nest occurs. I know so many couples in their 50s etc. that once the kids leave it is like okay I am done now I want to explore life on my own. My marriage is not great either for sure....I think I am only staying in it because it is comfortable and the upheaval of a divorce is less than appealing..pathetic reason to stay I know:(

Highwood, not pathetic reason to stay at all. I think it takes great strength to stay and try to maintain a marriage that isn't great. Maybe other people don't see it that way. But I do. I have no clue what I really want to do. I know I will be financially better off if I stay in my marriage.

I think down the road it would be easier when my children marry and have kids if I stay.

However, my husband can't stand spending time with my sister's family and kids. He can't handle the sensory overload that you can expect with her rowdy family of 7. We had two.

I feel more loved and supported by my sister and parents than I do by my husband. But they all have their own lives. Last fall my husband and I tried to do some travel nursing and I found that things were the same sit around and watch tv. But other than a couple weekend trips and going to movies we were way too sedentary. I didn't have my other support people in my life. We moved back home and returned to our previous jobs and life is as tense as ever.

How do you stay busy?

During the week I am fine as I work all day, come home have supper, then I usually take the pup out for an hour walk, then I go to kickboxing...so by that time we are close to bedtime. Weekends are somewhat boring, I still do exercise, etc. but that is not the whole day. H does not have any hobbies and I wish he did more when he is at home...he is a contractor and sometimes a couple of weeks can go by in between jobs. He had a motorcycle a few years ago but sold it, kind of pissed me off because at least it was something he could do on weekends.

Other ladies I know who are married, seems their husbands arebusy doing this and doing that....one gal here her husband is a pilot and they have two acreages and that keeps them busy enough but he still plays mens recreational hockey and curls, etc....and I think wow at least he keeps busy. H whenhe is not working sits on the computer and plays cards or watches tv. I find that it is almost like we have no desire to do anything as a couple anymore....

So glad I found this site! I have been an empty nester for two years :/ and still I feel stuck!!! I too seem to get through the work week ok, I don't necessarily love my job but the interaction with people helps get me out of the bed in the morning.... plus I don't want to be homeless. I do okay on the weekend if I am invited to visit or go somewhere, but I am terrible about going alone anywhere. I'm hoping to find comfort here...

Raising a child was like finding new faith in humanity when so much of that faith when dealing with my parents and sibling. Had I not had the amazing fortune of being a father, I know I would be a completely lost self-centered soul in search of the latest and greatest item to consume my emotions.

My daughter left for a vacation in europe and I'm alone, which mostly is fine I suppose. The weekends.....having to be somewhat structured to find meaning and inspiration.
