Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I thought I was OK and never thought I would go through empty nest syndrome. I was so sad that I could not even describe how sad I was after I dropped off my son to his dorm. I felt so alone and empty. I felt that something was missing. I cried while my husband hugged me without saying anything.
I found an online support group for parents and I was comforted after I shared my feelings with other parents. I realized I was not alone and their comments were very encouraging. I also have a life group who pray with me.
My son is now a sophomore and living alone in his apartment. I’m OK now and have adjusted to living a life far from my only child. We talk and text everyday. There are still times that I worry and feel sad but after I pray, I experience God’s peace that surpasses all understanding.
I’m glad that you found us. Keep sharing. I hope you will find comfort here as well. Empty nest syndrome is real. Journaling is also a big help. Write down all your emotions, it can help you to feel better. Praying for you, for peace and comfort as you go through this journey. I hope to hear from you again and let us know how you are doing.
